01 silverado service engine soon light

I bought my 01 silverado single cab shorty over 1 year ago and since I bought it the truck has always had the engine service soon light on. Will this effect my star smog in California? I have no Idea why it is on and I have always done my oil change on time and done the basic tune up on it. I did notice when I bought it and still have not fixed it but the windshield wiper reservoir is cracked and doest not hold fluid. Do you think this might be one of the cause of the LIGHT being on?

If California emissions testing is like Texas, A SES light will fail you.

Get it scanned, Autozone (In Texas) will scan your car for free, Report back with the codes.

The windshield washer system will not cause a SES light.

Yep 3 codes came back. Got them fixed the light has not came back on. Will be taking it to the smog guy in a few days.

I have an 08 Z71 when my SES light comes on I service the engine. When done I have to fully depress the gas pedal 3 times with the key on and the service interval resets automatically. Dont know if the 01 has that feature, might be worth a look.

The SES(service engine soon) is the same as the check engine light.

You are talking about the oil change light. On your truck(08) it should display, change engine oil soon, in the dic.

2 completely different things.

Got all the lights fixed. 1.timing 2. Pcv valve 3. Fuel sensor. Drove it 100 miles and passed. Sold it after that. Sticking with my 64 c10 for now on. No more smog! WOOT WOOT!
