Leaky Glovebox

Got a problem folks, Replaced my windshield new gasket and put a new glove box in and rained one day and had a puddle in my glove box looks like the leak is coming from the back right corner off the glove box looking in. Any idea of how to fix this anyone?

Put a drain hole in the glove box! JK! LOL!!
Your new windshield gasket is no good.

When I had my windshield replaced in my 81 C10 the glass installer advised me that it takes a few days up to a week for the gasket to properly seal and that leaks were a possibility.
If it is a week past that time I would recheck the gasket to see if it is bad or not properly sealed.

Is it your windshield gasket or the body seam? I don’t have any tips for you but mine leaks through a seam where the filler has come out ( i haven’t got to fixing it yet ). If water gets through the seam, it follows the post down to the dash, or wherever gravity takes it. Mine will leak more if I park slightly “ nose down”

Try using a little windshield sealer 6" in from the top corners and 3" down from the top corners of the windshield gasket. That may help the leak problem. Also check the inside of the drip rail and the seam below it and chalk as necessary.

The glove box liners have a seam on both sides and the lap in the seam is open at the top, so any water that leaks on the top of the liner runs down into the glove box. You can see what I'm talking about in the picture below. I always use sealer to seal up the gap in the seams before installing the glove box liners. I use a product called DAP tub & tile chalk. You can get it at any hardware store.

GM specifies in the factory service manual to use weatherstrip cement under the entire perimeter edge of the windshield seal, the seal alone isn't meant to be watertight without it. The recommendations on checking seam sealer are also appropriate, check the windshield upper drip rail, and remove cowl and check seam sealer ant base of windshield, while doing so check all cowl seam sealer as 40+ years causes it to dry out, shrink, become brittle and break off leading to leaks from missing seam sealer.

Yup, windshield is supposed to be cemented into place in order to be weathertight.

Thanks everyone its been a few weeks was replaced but im going to take a bucket of water with me and see if I can pin point the leak and patch with sealer.

Well think Ive fixed the problem? months ago I removed the antenna wire and the whole left was causing water to leak in. Some roofing tar along with something to fit over the whole perfectly.

Also, the upper corners can leak. Its common to fold back and put windshield silicone in there.

If you used PGW Glass and bought your seal there, I would be almost certain it is a Precision Gasket. Those are the good ones.

Yes I did they do work at my fathers work and was able to get a deal and they didnt have any problem getting the seal they had it in stock. When it was installed he used some sealer too under the gasket along a spot or two on the top so im sure the hole I patched with the quarter was the problem.

I do believe the seam to the right of your quarter is supposed to be full of seam sealer. The two trucks I have had both had factory sealer there, you can see what’s left of it below your windshield gasket. I actually just resealed my K20.
