I was trying to pull the front hub lockouts on a mid 80's Blazer with a 10 bolt axle. I think I am screwed.

How do I remove the hub retaining ring that is inside the ID of the front hub. It is a wire loop that is just inside the ID of the front hub after you pull the covers off. The shop manual says this ring should have two ears that would allow you to compress the retainer with some pliers and remove it.

The ears on this retaining ring are missing. Any ideas on how to remove this? I could probably leave the ring in and attach a slide hammer to the lockouts but that would probably destroy the lockouts.

Any ideas?

A thin blade screw driver or a pick so you can get under the ring and peel it out

A pick works pretty good but a super thin flat bladed screwdriver works best.

Yep they said a thin blade and then another flat head to hold it out once you get under it. Should come right out.

The large ring that holds the inner locking part into the hub does not have "eyes" on the ends. They are usually tapered so you can get a screwdriver under the end. The little snap-ring on the axle itself should be "normal" with the holes.
