Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
This junction, (with the yellow sleeve) connects to two wires. One has a blown fuse. When connected to the positive battery terminal, it puts a significant parasitic drain on the battery. Questions: what circuit has the blown fuse. Where does the other wire (with the thick sleeve on it) go?

Re: Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
The fuse is one side of the circuit for the amp meter, there is another similar fuse near the voltage regulator. If the large sleeve piece goes to the terminal block by the battery then I think it is main power into the fuse block.

I think the voltage regulator can malfunction and cause a draw on that fused circuit, check with ammeter hooked to that wire and disconnect the 4 wire plug on the voltage regulator.

Yes, the fuse is in-line.

That's it!
When I unplug the voltage regulator, the parasitic draw goes away. Thank you. Now I'll replace the fuse and have the regulator checked at O'Reilly's. Wish me luck... |

Re: Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
There are 2 fuses, one on each side in the same place BTW...

Re: Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
I should have added that the regulAtor is directly hooked to the alternator so unplugging the alternator wires could remove your draw too, not sure how to isolate regulAtor and alternator

Re: Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
If the regulator checks out ok, then you might have a bad diode in your alternator. A simple check of each diodes front to back resistance will identify which diode. Using a DVM check the resistance then reverse the leads. You should get very low resistance and reversing the leads should give a much higher resistance. If the resistance is about the same then the diode is bad and could be leaking current.

Re: Battery draw! Electrical help needed.
Excellent advice in this thread by all.
The OP can also get a digital regulator if he wants to keep the stock alternator. If he wants to upgrade to the internally regulated alternator I recommend this thread. .http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=417872 And a lot of information on the battery gauge wiring. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=393139
