Crew cab C50 help!

Hey guys I am looking to see if their is anyone out their that can finish this up for me. I am looking at building a C50/60 crew cab fleet side dually. Here is the start but I need to see how a bed and fenders would look. I do not have a bed length figured out because I just need to see what "looks right" and go from their. My plan would be to build this around a new chassis with a diesel power plant like maybe a dodge dually platform and use it as a show car hauler for cruising around the state's to different events. So any help would be great!

Thanks in advance. Also I need this to look as real as possible to run it past the Boss for her final approval.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

That looks cool! Is it hard to shorten the bed and wheel base about 12" all between the cab and rear tires? I sure am liking the direction of course I would need to have step side fenders on the fleet bed sides to cover the tires but the look sure is their.

Kevin

Do you have a C-50/60 now. Do you know is the cab basically the same, Will the big truck front sheetmetal fit on the 1/2 ton cab or does it require a big truck cab. I have thought about a project like this for some time and hadnt seen any renditions of it before. It looks like it would be a major undertaking but would be well worth the time involved . The big trucks really do look neat , If I remember right someone on here was doing a 64-66 with modified big truck front sheetmetal.....cant remember who though...I will have to go find it now.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

It's nice to see that someone could finish my original photochop by adding a bed. I tried but could not make one look right. It looks really good, however is not proportional, in order to make the real truck look like the picture you would have to extend the bedsides down to the bottom of the C50 steps and lower the wheel opening. The stock bedsides would line right up with the bottom of the cab not the steps and the wheel opening looks to high, thats why I couldnt get it to look right. It would take a lot of custom metal work to make the box look that good.

I noticed that as well, I played with it a little to try and get the step fender to scale, I did add some sheet metal to the bottom of the step fender to get it flush with the bottom of the bed side. I also shortened the wheel base but not sure how much (I was just trying to get it to look right to me)

I also think that you might have to stretch the fenders a little to get it to look good in reality.

The only thing different in these two pictures is that I added the fuel tank.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

For those that would prefer a shorter bed, although I think if you are going to go big than GO BIG!

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

Looks good with the big wheels too! The boxes on these last ones are how all mine turned out, and thats how they would look in real too. But I dont like it. I like the non-proportional ones better and if I built one I would want the extra metal to make it look "right". I just wanted to clarify to the guy who requested this photochop that thats how it was.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

I actually think I like it better with the shorter box too, its good to see it both ways. And I loved the factory style trim added to one of the first ones. Though that too was highly modified as far as placement on the bottom of the cab which made it look better.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

I need to message the members that have built crewcabs and get a measurement from back of the cab to center of the rear axle to figure out a final wheelbase. I was looking at my truck and trying to picture it in my head and I think its already pretty close.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

Here is the idea that I was playing with. Just extend the step and drop the fender down to meet it.

Re: Crew cab C50 help!

that looks ok, but I would lower the wheel opening to match the front and enlarge it. Also the back needs something. The picture that Scorp did is how it needs to look in my opinion, but with the step extended to the rear fender like you have here. Its just a matter of recreating it in real life that is the question. It can be done though by a good sheetmetal fabricator.

Some people use the burb behind the 3rd door forward and add a pick up cab to the rear. Then you have to make a LH b pillar, and 4th door. Others use 2 truck cabs and build everything else.
