Re: 418 Waffle House closures

My father in law was sayin, just before this pandemic, That when a hurricane would roll through, he would look up the street to see if the Waffle House lights were still on. When that light goes out and you see the staff leaving--- It just got serious!

Burger King has a dollar crispy taco that is real close to the Jack In The Box Taco. Sometimes it's all I want when I am sick and cannot eat. Go figure.

Del Taco is weird. One day it's delicious. And the next time it's terrible.

But I learned not to go through the drive thru. Go in and stare at the people making your food. They make it a lot better when you're looking at them.

Re: 418 Waffle House closures

Well, I’m from the south so maybe that changes my opinion. I know Waffle House is greasy, sometimes a little seedy, not healthy food....but damn, is it good!!!

I always look forward to going to Waffle House.

Me too. I was just sick for two days (not COVID 19) I get hit with some pretty nasty Vertigo from time to time and it takes me out for a while.

The first thing I wanted when I was coming out of it was BK tacos and we don't have a Jack in the box anywhere around here.

I use Heinz taco sauce instead of BK's. It is close to JITB.

I can't wait until they open back up. Give me an order of scrambled with cheese, raisin toast, bacon, grits, and black coffee. Good food made fresh.

Tried Del Taco once up in OKC...must have hit them on a bad day then. Not good at all. Went inside but typically I don't stare.

Re: 418 Waffle House closures

Had a good friend , like a son , come hang out with me on Sunday , he helped me move trucks around and clean my shop . He was a Manager at a Waffle House , young guy , 26 , bread winner as his wife has a disability ( no check) , very worried about his future . He hopes to find a new job soon as he doesnt think his store will survive this . I hope there is something out there for him , he recently bought a house .

Re: 418 Waffle House closures

There was one Jack In The Box around here that I ever knew about and that was in '70-'72. I never ate lunch there, only late night half moon shaped sustenance.

Re: 418 Waffle House closures

When I worked graveyard stocking shelves (midnight to 8:00) My buddy and I would go to Jack in the Box in the morning. Which was evening to us. Our time clocks were backward on that shift and we wanted burgers not breakfast. So it was JITB.

Jack in the Box employee's may have thought that we were stoned. But we were just tired.

But I remember the food being better then. Maybe I was just really tired and hungry.

I hated that job.

When I was a kid ----wait for it---- Jack in the Box came out with a Bacon Cheese burger. Now this was not today's Bacon Cheese Burger. It was on a Kaiser Roll with lettuce and tomato and had a good amount of bacon with a decent size Patty of Beef. It was GLORIOUS! Then it just disappeared.

I remember those. They were good. I hate it when a place comes out with a really good "Limited time" product. Then yanks it out from under you. Why? Are they teasing us?

Like the McRib. First you can get it. Then you can't. Then you can again. What is up with that? It's the boomerang of sandwiches.

Weinerschnitzel had delicious guacamole cheeseburgers and Ortega chile cheese dogs. Then one day they were just gone.

I hate how the grocery stores keep tweaking their inventory. They always drop my favorite item, a staple in my diet. It's always the best stuff, too. The average smaverage isn't going anywhere. Doggone Hush Puppy wearin' bean-countin' pencil pushers messing with what I want to eat! I'm sure if they just asked me what was best they'd do better business with greater profits, just let the bean-counters go

When Jack in the box did away with their Super Tacos back in the day, it was all over. When i was in the NAVY stationed at NAS Moffett Field after a night of drinking and partying a stop at Jack in the box for some Super Tacos was a must. They were really good then.

They brought the Super Taco's back for a while and they were not even close to what they were before. The same with the Bonus Jack. They used to be really good.

Hopefully someone will step up and buy Waffle House. It has name recognition. When Hostess went belly up investors bought the company for $410 million. Once they started pumping out Twinkies again they sold the company for 2.3 billion. Not a bad return on their investment in a couple years. So you can bet there are people looking at this.

It's funny how one company can make a huge profit when it predecessor failed selling exactly the same thing.

I think Waffle House had a virus before. The "Bad Management" virus.

You may have seen Morgan Spurlock's 2004 film "Super Size Me". It's a real eye-opener.
