"The Wagon" 1967 Belair Project

Well here goes nothing. In my quest for another 67-72 burb I stumbled upon this 67 belair wagon. I have always wanted another 67 impala since my dad had one while I was growing up. He had to sell it when I turned 18 and I was heartbroken. I stumbled on a craigstlist ad in san diego that looked intriguing. The ad was for a 67 belair impala car. I called the dude and chopped it up a bit with him. He told me it was a 9 passenger wagon and had the orignal drivetrain. I wasn't looking for a wagon when I found it but I kept my eye on it for over a month. I thought about the rig for a while and came to the conclussion that I should combine my need for a burb with my passion for a fullsize 67 car. You see I couldn't find a decent burb in my price range anywhere near utah so I pulled the trigger and flew to san diego and made him an offer and he took it. I drove the car over 1000 miles home and it didnt skip a beat plus its gets decent mileage with the 2bbl carb. I have very little plans for it at the moment except to fix a few rust spots and getting it to stop better.

Re: "The Wagon" 1967 Belair Project

I love the GM wagons from the '60s.

You don't see many '67 Bel-Air wagons on the road. I remember back when the Sport Utility craze was on and everybody was buying Tahoes, Suburbans, Explorers, and Expeditions. They thought they were onto some new idea, but in the '60s/'70s when I grew up, 90% of the familys with more than 3 kids had wagons. That was the only way to get everybody up and around.

The panel over the rear quarter glass.....Is it a painted window or a sheetmetal panel?

The panels are metal but I'm not sure if they're factory.

I've always liked them too, but with the white walls they are not in synch with the rest of the car.

Agreed! I'm not a whitewall fan at all unless there on a 50's caddi. I put this rig in storage two weeks ago and plan on leaving it there till next spring.

Me, I'd go with torque thrusts, Boss 338's, Coys or something. Steelies work well with nice patina, but to my eye, primered cars need nice wheels to look good. That's just me though.

Have you figured out anything on the back windows?

Are you going to leave the stance alone or drop it?Does it have a tuck n roll interior it kind of looks like it in one of your pics?

I'm thinking of going with coy's. They are local to me and make a decent product. I'm torn between the C5's in gunmetal or chrome.

The car is lowered already but I'm not sure if I plan on going any lower. I don't think the interior is tuck and rolled but it is pretty new. I'm going to put my mexican plankets off my burb on to protect the seats.

Re: "The Wagon" 1967 Belair Project

I been trying to locate some decent trim and front end parts for the car locally since its so exspensive out of classic but I've had no luck. I need a new lip for the hood eyebrow trim and possibly a new grill. The headlight bezels seem to be in decent shape. I'm hoping I come across a decent front clip for the car I can just pop on. I put my nova up for sale locally to help pay for this project. I'm hoping the cash I get from it will help get things rolling.

Anybody know if there are other gm cars and trucks that would have the same power brake booster I could swap in? Manual brakes suck.

Re: "The Wagon" 1967 Belair Project

Here's a little bit of an update or something.... I got a wild hair at work the other day after re-reading the budget mods thread that longhornman started. I remember seeing "unique" and "different" coolant overflow tanks and remembered I had an empty captain morgan bottle from my rum and whiskey drinking days a few years back. So after work I stopped home and grabbed a few tools zipties the empy rum bottle and a tall boy. I got to my storage unit and hooked the ole rum bottle up. I think it turned out good and it didn't cost me nothing cause I didn't pay for the rum . I noticed my valve cover gaskets are starting to leak while I was installing my "custom" overflow tank. I don't know about you guy's but I don't care for cheap plain jane auto zone chrome covers so I'm going to install the best covers in my opinion for small blocks. I have a set of script covers off an old 62 283 that have been room decor for about two years. I'm thinking of painting them back up to orange or doing the bare metal look. Also wanted to point out that I do not condone drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon. It's a terrible beer and I would never waste a cent on it but when it's free beggars can't be choosers.

Few more pics from the storage unit. I talked to coy last week and they have my wheels in stock but im debating on size. I don't like big wheels but I'm torn between buying some 17's or sticking with the old reliable 15''.

IIRC there is a caprice right around the same year as your car at the wrecking yard I go to, I'll swing by and see if it has the trim pieces you are after.
