Brake pedal stop

Hey guys I converted from a power brake set up to a manual with a willwood master cylinder mounted directly to the firewall. Right now the only thing acting as a stop for the brake pedal is the brake switch. If the threads were to strip out on the plastic of that I see the potential for the pushrod to fall out of the master cylinder and end up with no brakes. Has anyone ran into this? I'm thinking I can drill a hole on the tab next to the brake switch and use a bolt and nut for a secondary stop.

Re: Brake pedal stop

I just put my wilwood master in last weekend. I just replaced the factory manual master with the new one (no power brakes). I played around to get the pushrod length correct but didn't feel like I had to change anything.

Are you trying it dry or did you fill it and bleed the lines? With the system operating correctly I would think the hydraulic pressure would keep the pedal from going to the floor (or a stop). If it goes to the floor (or a stop), you have a problem!

It is dry. The pressure doesnt have any affect because the pedal is moving in the opposite direction. Say the switch were to strip out making the pedal move towards the driver , it would pull the pushrod out of the master cylinder. There is nothing that locks the pushrod in.

I don't know what year truck you are working on but on my '70 there is a metal formed bracket that bolts (4 of them IIRC) to the dash under the steering column that has rubber bump stops for both the clutch and brake pedal. Are you missing yours?
