47-55.1 Interesting AD photo - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been searching for pictures of trucks this morning and came across an interesting one. This is from a movie "Walk the Dark Street" filmed in 1956. The five window configuration is nicely altered with what appear to be angled openings at the top of the side glass and the rectangular rear window replaced with an arched rear glass. I'm not an AD guy but it seems like the top of the driver's window is squared a bit more than usual? What surprises me most is the extended cab. According to IMDB the movie was filmed at Universal Studios in LA so I'm guessing a local customizer built the truck. Extended cab AD's draw attention today but this one must have been a really amazing sight in '56.

There is nothing different about the cab, it's just distorted by the camera.

Really? It looks like the cab is longer but I'm not an AD guy so I'll take your word for it.
What about that back window? All the other horizontal lines in the picture look correct.

No. I found it on a site that catalogs vehicles seen in movies and telivision shows.

It's just distorted by the old filming or quality of the film.

Yep it is distorted some. Flame job looks like the one on my 48 when I traded back for it in the mid 70's

Scene is at 58:46 and the truck get almst two seconds of stardom. It shows up again at 58:59. During the first shot you can see the edges of the window change slightly. The picture I uploaded looks a little closer to stock.

Oh well, at least I got to show my children a stop signal from the '50s.

Paint wise you can see the similarity between it and mine on the hood of mine over my wife sitting in the T bucket and her Barracuda in the middle. The photo was in my dad's photos when I went though them.

She never has driven the 48 but used to sneak the T out and drive around town quite a bit.

LOL, so funny how we see these things, there's an AD reflection in the window at 58:17 too. Then at 58:45 as he crosses in front of another AD on the street I think. I am pretty sure it's an AD I may be wrong.

I love the old photos of how these trucks were customized in the 50's.

There are so many cool things to see. At 58:59 when he runs back across the street he has to speed across to avoid getting hit by Ford's version of the LCF hauling a trailer. It was pretty close and there was no stunt double involved. And I think the image you posted with the AD truck also shows an Olds or Buick fastback parked against the curb in front of the wagon I can't identify.

That's a great picture of the T and the 48. I'm not sure but I think the flames go farther back on the movie truck. But similar style for sure. And that definitely looks like shag carpet on the T. I actually had similar color shag in the cab of my first TF when I was 15. It didn't do much for the poor thing, though. Or for me. lol.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
