Re: NAPCO Longhorn on EBAY

The only 67-72 NAPCO p/u I've seen was a '68 Stepside ex-fire dept rig. Pretty cool. The '71 I had started out as a cab & chassis, had a flatbed. A friend in ID had a Longhorn NAPCO Cheyenne, but I never saw it. I wish pictures of the transfer case and all were included. This makes the 7th 67-72 NAPCO I've known of, I believe. Rare birds for sure

Re: NAPCO Longhorn on EBAY

Very interesting that it is starting for a sane price, unlike all too many in the last ten years.

Re: NAPCO Longhorn on EBAY

May be totally legit, but I’m not 100% convinced it’s a NAPCO conversion as opposed to an owner conversion, despite seller’s description. With the low miles claimed, odd that the motor was swapped from its original 6 to what appears to be a pre-69 V8. And it’s not often a chassis is described as so cherry due to low miles that has a body and interior in this condition.

Or, I could just be trying to talk you all out of it so I can swoop...

I’m in Harpers Ferry 1/2 hour away as we speak. Damn tempting. Too bad it looks like it’s got inner roof rust.

A military vehicle could have low miles -- just taxi-ing around on-base -- but get a lot of physical abuse. Navy preferred L6s. Air Force would sometimes hotrod in a big block, especially SAC/TAC.
Looks like light blue was overpainted on Navy grey. I'd say the blue paint and SBC were the PO's idea after the vehicle was RELAD.

Re: NAPCO Longhorn on EBAY

I missed that it was in my backyard, too. I see no reason to not believe it's real. The body got crappy sitting in the trees for 33 years. The V8 is in the 6cyl position to work with the transmission/transfer case/driveshaft positions/length, which puts the V8 back into the firewall like a factory 4wd. It wouldn't be back there if it was a factory V8.

Now I know exactly what truck this is. It truly sat since '86 on Sidney Rd. west of town not far from MD144. I watched it grow moss. It had wide tires and 10" white spokes. I never realized it was a NAPCO or I would have bugged the owner more. I just walked by to the door, never looked it over, just walked by assuming it was a K/20.Just recently we had a new member from Mt. Airy post in Heavy Haulers about his crewcab E-model GMC. I asked where he lived and when he told me Sidney Rd I mentioned this truck. He told me it finally disappeared. I drove by and noticed the crewcab at the place right next door.

No Mike. Other than aches and pains I'm still kickin' up as much dust as any young'n. Ain't been sick since I don't know when

Check it out. Post #11 on:

By the looks of the steering and the front differential, I'm pretty convinced it was a Napco conversion. Where else would you get an Eaton front diff? The steering looks the same as a C30 Napco that resides in Missouri.

Does anyone know where the truck went or what it even sold for? Definitely one of the most rare trucks of the era IMO.
