Re: Donz '72 LWB Shop Truck...

Thanx Rusty...

Today I drove the '72 out to my friend's new hot rod shop location and in exchange for a little assistance hanging some ceiling joists, I snagged some S10 Wiper parts for another friend who happens to work with me…

On to the pics…
IMG_4744 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

The guy on the scaffold is Tim, it's his shop and he's the one I got the '72 from…The guy in the red shirt is Klown, he's another artist that works in the studio with me and my son…

New shop pics…

Me on a ladder working a framing gun…
IMG_4754 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

After hanging the ceiling joists, we went over to the existing shop to get a wiper motor and steering column for Klown... Hanging outside is Clint's '64, He's known as ArkyHauler out here, and has Tim doing some work on the '64…
Clint broke his arm, but hopefully with Tim's help, the '64 will make the trek to Clem's in October...
IMG_4758 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

…and lastly, after getting Klown's wipers working, I got a call that a box had arrived at the studio… Rian and Martin should be quite chuffed as their Firewall Pads have arrived…

More sanding throughout the week, thankfully drier air is filtering in and with highs in the upper 80's and low 90's it should be a bit more comfortable outside...

Then after some other work on the '65 I pulled the Grille in preparation for a trade I should be making soon… Then pulled the radiator to make doing the P/S install a bit easier…

Good luck finding the right pulley Don at pick n pull. If you want this alternator it's your's, it only has 1000 miles or so on it. I swapped it out for a one wire 12SI when I swapped wiring harnesses. Brackets included for shipping cost only. $15.00 bucks if you want it.

Rain postponed the trip to the junkyard… made it there this morning and grabbed the parts needed... Pics to follow later…

Re: Donz '72 LWB Shop Truck...

Upon arriving home from the junkyard, I saw the post from sduckwoth13 and immediately shot him a PM… later in the day as I was chasing a bolt and belts, Scott called and we had a nice chat… Thanx again Scott!!!

The trip to the Pick-N-Pull netted me the Water pump and pulley, Alternator brackets, and Balancer pulley…

I replaced the short water pump with the long one, installed the P/S, and re-worked the fuel line from the pump to the carb, as it was, it interfered with the alternator in it's new home on the pass side of the engine… I then made a run to the parts store for belts… Unfortunately, the alternator belt ended up being too long, and the one I exchanged it for tonight ended up being too short...
I will get the right one tomorrow…

Here's the P/S pump installed and adjusted with the new belt…
IMG_4933 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
IMG_4935 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Here's the alternator waiting on a proper size belt and the wiring harness to be elongated…You can't tell from these pics, but all the pulleys lined up beautifully...
IMG_4934 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Here's the wiring harness, it was long enough for the D/S location, but for the Pass side… not so much...
IMG_4936 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

…so tomorrow, I plan on getting the right alt belt, elongating the wiring, and mounting the Power Steering Box...

then it will be time to re-install the fan shroud and radiator and test drive...

Today I was able to get the P/S conversion done… and the test drive went beautifully...
I also replaced the non-cancelling T/S switch with a new one…Thanx Scott for the tech support call… Afterwards I swapped out the large OEM wheel with a wheel off the S10 column we scored for Wiper switch parts for my bud Klown…

On to the Pix…
I started out mounting the Trans Oil cooler…

Then after a trip to get the right size alternator belt…

While speaking with Scott aka sduckworth13… I removed the Auto column Shift indicator and learned that the pointer was lit by a type of fiber optic set-up… I removed that along with the gear indicator lens… If anyone is looking to restore an original Auto Column, and you need these parts, PM me… I put a flashlight up to the bulb socket and the indicator pointer lights up…
Here are the parts…

Hopefully I'll get the grille swap done soon...

Here's the grille from an early 71 C30 dump truck…

Going to swap the tube grille for this, then hopefully find a good driver quality 72 grille down the road…
