Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

I know some of you aren't going to believe this, and that's OK, I wouldn't believe it either, but my 2000 Z71 has the factory pads and rotors and it just turned 118K. The pads still have about 1/3 of the life left, but starting back around 100K the rotors started vibrating a little bit and have a slight pulsing during braking now. It's getting time for new pads/rotors.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

Be sure to double check the inner pads on the front. There is a recall for failing anti-lock sensors which results in premature wear on the inners.

There was a recall, but it only affected vehicles in areas/states where salt was used on the roads. The salt corroded the sensors.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

It was time to do the rears on my 03 at 86k. I went ahead and did my fronts because I bought cross drilled and slotted rotors all the way around and painted my calipers. No doubt the fronts would have lasted alot longer.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

I have a 2002 Silverado with 86,000 miles.Same pads.Still look good and feel good.My truck is a stick shift which might help save the pads while using the gears to slow down instead of the brakes.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

I also got 118k out of my original fronts. still on the original rears (knockin' on 140,000 ) could have gone longer on the factory fronts but I replaced wheel bearings so figured I would do breaks as well.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

My 1999 2500 w wheel discs went 140k. I had to replace them, pads, rotors, lines, and MC, after letting it set for a year (less than 600 miles in 16 months). Basically the system just rusted off. The pads still looked good. the parking brake was junk though.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

I have a 99 Chevy 1500 extended cab with 165000+ on it. I replaced the rear brakes at 135000 miles and the front have never been touched. I pull a 16' flat trailer that I haul a D-17 AC with a bush hog or box blade on when not collecting old trucks and race cars. I even pull my 24' enclosed with my 72 nova in it. I use mine hard but I use common sense. I don't wait till I should be stopped to start stopping.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

I bought my 2003 CCSB 1500hd 4x4 used with 100K on it, and now at 125K I need to replace the rear brakes/rotors. The front pads look to have a little longer to go. I did have to replace the driver's front wheel bearing at about 120K. That was a big pain in the rear to do.

We got 202,000 out of the Wife's 99 4wd Trailblazer Factory set.

Out of the 8 pads, it has 4 wheel disc, only 1 got into the metal.

Re: How Long Did Your Factory Brakes Last

128k mi on original brakes on my 2500HD, and it has been used for pulling trailers most of its life, and the last 30k miles have been with 37" tires. Last time I had the wheels off to rotate the tires, the pads front and rear looked to have plenty of life left.
