Fuel Line

Stock mechanical pump. Stub of the original metal line coming out of the pump that goes into some rubber hose and then into the aftermarket carb. There's an inline filter spliced in the hose. What's the best way to improve on this? Braided stainless? All metal? Where should the filter go? It's mounted close to horizontal now. It starts fine when cold, but dies shortly due to running out of fuel. Another couple of pumps and it's good to go. Thanks Paul |

i think this is the most common way...
but if you are wanting something better, just hide it a bit better. or are you thinking about showing the truck and want something slick? i would think an all metal would be the best looking and safest way to go.

mine is the same idea as dave's. its common practice I think. mine has the metal line coming up from the fuel pump to about the same spot and then a filter spliced into it. mine is one of those glass see thru ones that you can change the element in. which I might add look great but you want to check them every so often to make sure the ends are tight on it. my truck sat from last fall until yesterday without being started and when it first started pumping gas through it it shot gas out from the seal between the metal end and the glass. I guess the seal had softened or something anyway. from that its just a plain piece of rubber fuel line. the filter there is a great idea especially if its one you can see into like mine or dave's there. you can monitor the gas better for rust and such with these old trucks theres always the chance the tanks got rust in it.the only upgrade I can see to this is like you said stainless steel lines and colorfull fittings. and about all that does is make it look better it doesnt run better afterwards.
