Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Installed my cut down Van column and it now sticks out way better than before. One of the pics is before I cut it down, please excuse the fuzzy pics from my phone. I am going to invest in a new camera soon or maybe use the money on the build decisions decisions?

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

the column looks good.
you might want to shorten that column drop if you want seats in it though
i run my tilt column straight and have it snug up to the bottom of the dash.
as is, knee clearance is still an issue with my 6'4'' legs.
i actually had to grind the point off the bottom of my speedo

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

I already had it in with the bench seat it fit perfect I cut the coulmn outside the firewall, the seat is of a 1989 Silverado which I pie cut one inch (see early post pics) no knee problems what so ever, but than again I am only 6 feet not as tall as you!

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

I wasn't to happy with my firewall, the paint was way to glossy for me. Today I picked up some chassis black paint and painted the inside fender wheels now I am happy with that color, darn now to re-paint the firewall again

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Last weekend I hooked up the steering joints and repainted the firewall the paint was way to glossy for me, now to put the motor in hopefully next weekend if weather permits. I bolted and drilled the seat down, what you are seeing is the foam, the cover for the seat is sewed up dont want to install it just yet til everything is done and painted in the cab. If you look on post #102 you can see the difference in the column before it was shortened and these pics way better angle!

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Last weekend mounted booster, mated the brake lines from proporting valve to the front and rear brake lines. Mounted the front end and started the fender body work. I had to use the painted grille cause the off shore china crap was giving me shuch a hassle nothing above or below the grill would line up!!

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

I am seriously thinking of going with no chrome like this truck, remember this is going to be a daily driver! I am getting old and my polishing of chrome days are behind me now that is the reason why my harley davidson dyna low rider is down I am powder coating that bad boy. Before I sold my Road King Classic I was in the same boat polishing polishing, so now I just want paint!

Your truck is lookin' good. All that work on the steering column seems to have paid off. I hear ya on the "no polishing". Let me know if you figure out a solution for "no washing" and "no vacuuming". Also the blue TF that you posted, in my opinion has the perfect stance.

Question: Know how to sell your truck for $50,000?
Answer: Spend $100,000 building it.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Hey Rude dude, not sure if I overlooked it or what, but what year and make did your steering wheel come from?
The PO of my truck had a little tiny Grant steering wheel and that ain't gonna cut it.
Also, where did you get your steering column mount from? Looking at going the same route as you did on the tilt steering out of a van.
Oh yeah, what brake booster setup are you using? I have a camaro clip but the camaro booster is WAY too big for the firewall.
Your trucks coming along nicely!!!!
Thanks

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Bought it from importer at Pomona Swap Meet paid $225 it a small version of 55-56 Chevy Bel Air, Made in China speedway carries them but cheaper at swap meet.
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-5...eel,58572.html.

Read early post on my build column is 1974 to 81 Chevy Van. I think after 82 or 83 they put the key in column.

Booster is generic street rod booster that fits the corvette master cylinder available from most aftermarket street rod magazines , I think speedway sells them, J&W hot rod parts, Yoogi's all of them carry it.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build

Finally finish the top headlight portion of the fenders, had to cut and reweld a section of drivers side near grill. Next need to primer all of the fender and block sand. I think I would rather go to the Dentist than do body work!
