Just STUPID !!!!

Everyday I've been finding all kinds of Redneck, Shade Tree BS on this truck I bought.

Here's the latest....A glass fuel line filter with the rubber gas line laying on top of the muffler. Unreal !!!!

Yesterday, found the drive shaft had the wrong U-Joint installed at the rear & without the cup clips installed. Also someone had replaced the drive shaft yoke & stick welded it to the shaft.

It is so messed up, had to get another shaft made.....$320.00 ticket added.

Ah....the fun.....

Re: Just STUPID !!!!

Manufactured homes are that kind of fun too. I've bought three for rentals.
Owner installed mobile home water heaters and furnaces are generally the most Mickey Mouse bubba engineered abortions I've had the misfortune to see. The "professional electricians" work that Bubba did is right behind em.

I shouldn't complain much. I knew exactly how screwed up things were when I bought em. It cut the prices down considerably. They were structurally sound just had issues that scared away the unwashed masses.
I did about two weeks of work on each one and they were clean, safe, and making me money.

There should be a "Bubba" thread all it's on. I'm sure we could keep each other entertained for days...

sadly, I feel like square bodies in particular are the most often victim of some bass ackwards repairs. Seems like 67-72 get the most respect with other GM trucks following suit. And our beloved squares bringing up the rear.

Re: Just STUPID !!!!

Is that a leak stain on that muffler? If that filter was on the suction side of things, at least that is what it was designed for. It gets really scary when someone posts a picture of one sitting on top of the motor clearly on the pressure side of the fuel pump.

Re: Just STUPID !!!!

I feel your pain. I've bought several 81-87 Chevy GMC trucks to fix up and sale. Everyone one them has had some kind of hacked up rigged issues. The #1 issue I run into is the engine harness is hacked up and 2nd would be the wrong spark plug wires rigged up with zip ties. This 84 GMC I recently acquired is one of the nicer trucks I've had as it is 90% original, however someone put plug wires on it that came off some Chrysler product that said MOPAR.

Well, I think it would be a close tie between trucks and F-body Firebirds and Camaros. It seems the 2nd gen 1970-1981 really were almost comically abused to the point of non-fiction. I am always on the hunt for one and have seen some pretty bad Craigslist ads.

Agreed......Start a "Thread" and call it "Designer Hacks"

That way, it won't offend anyone. Wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings on here.....lol

I think that would be a fun topic....

can't argue with you there. I was thinking mostly along the lines of the GM truck line up. But those poor f-bodys...

I guess not everything is a 55/56/57 chevy.

You have got to be kidding me....: like others said, good thing you noticed that I would be giving the rest of that truck a VERY good look over if it was me.

I guess I can throw in my hilbilly engineering award. I had a 70 el camino that I bought that had really bad brakes when I went to change the booster and master cylinder the previous owner decided to bungee cord the brake pedal so it would return to its up travel. Now I admit I would have never thought of that...

Re: Just STUPID !!!!

After a friend of mine took his newly acquired car for the obligatory 'How fast will it go' run on country roads, he found the screwdriver that was replacing one of the rear leaf spring shackle bolts. Look that truck over real close!

I TOTALLY got rid of it !!

IMHO, this filter rates right there with that Edelbrock foam air filter. One backfire, & up she goes in flames....

Now, let me see what other surprises I can find.....

Why'd you tell him that? You know you can't put a PLASTIC fuel filter on top a Muffler!
