Aftermarket radio/antenna

I have purchased for my 56 an aftermarket radio, it's a PIONEER. Good radio. I've put the radio in a floor console that i made and thought of using a "hidden" antenna. The first one I purchased from Summit Racing, and that didn't work very well. I got very little radio signal, mostly fuzz to be exact. So I sent that one back. The 2nd one I purchased was from BEST BUY "their recommended power hidden antenna". The radio signal I get best is right in the middle of the front windshield. So for obvious reasons I am returning that one. They both were powered antenna's. So WHAT ARE YOU USING?? I'm leaning on going back to the standard stick antenna. I appreciate your assistance.
