The 255/70/15 Database

I called my local tire dealer today to ask if they had a particular 255/70/15 tire in stock. The guy on the other end of the phone goes, "15-inch?... Uh... Are you sure it's not a 16? That's a really odd size!"

Anyway, after searching the interweb for this size, it appears as though the tire guy was right, 255/70 has become an odd size in a 15" rim. I thought it might be a good idea to post up links to tires in this size to make it easier for us to find these tires.

These are the tires I have found in this size:

Cooper Cobra Radial G/T:
http://us.coopertire.com/tires/cobra-radial-g-t.aspx

Cooper Discoverer A/T3 (Soon to be replaced by the AT3 4S):
http://us.coopertire.com/tires/discoverer-a-t3-suv.aspx

BFG Radial T/A:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...L2V3&tab=Sizes

Kumho Crugen HT51:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

General Grabber AT2:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

So that's 5 different tires. Have you found any other tire brands in this "dying breed" size? If so, post up a link. Of course it goes without saying if you have a pic of these tires on your truck, please post it!

The meaning of this could be "We do not stock that size and have no sales records of it in my computer."
Some people may only be capable of looking in the store's computer, and never saw paper books to look up everything ever needed!

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

I get my tires online now-a-days. The local tire shops always want to charge way too much to lookup the tires on the computer.

Tire Rack is my preferred online vendor as they usually have them on my front porch within a day or two packaged nicely and ready to mount.

Here's a tirerack.com search for 255/70/15 which turned up 6 hits:

general grabber at 2, khumo crugen, bfgoodrich radial t/a, cooper cobra and discoverer and general grabber HTS 60:

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...earDiameter=17

Otherwise:

https://www.tirerack.com

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

Yes not alot of companies to choose froom in the 255/15 size , I will say I ran the Grabber HTS 60s on my 68 daily driver and they are a all around good tire ,good traction and handle well rain or shine also quiet through out the tires life and got 58k out of them for the price I would run them again if I was looking for 255/ 15 tires , I think I paid around $92.00 each the from tirerack.

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

I had the Cooper Cobras on my last truck and liked them a lot. On an 8 inch wide rim they really fill in the wheelwell very nice and give a truck a great look. When the 235/75R15's on my truck are done I will be going to P255/70 R15's.

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

Discount Tire has several listed, don't know if they are actually available or not...

https://www.discounttire.com/fitment...size/255-70-15

Looks like the same listing as tirerack.com

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

I bought my Cooper Cobra 255/70/15s from the trunk of a mysterious man's '70s black sedan, paid with unmarked bill's under the cover of darkness
Seriously, I bought them from Discount Tire's Ebay store with a promotional code for $400 & free shipping...they look great and ride even better. I haven't seen anything suggesting the phasing out story...can't figure that one out .

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

I saw this one at the All Truck Nationals in KC last fall. It was running 255/70/15s & helped me decide on the same size. I'm sure your truck will look like a million with 'em.

Ironically, this is exactly what I did yesterday. $408 shipped to me from their eBay store. Tracking says they'll be here on Wednesday. Can't wait to get them on the truck!

You're welcome! I was a bit skeptical about buying tires online, but it turned out great. Can't wait to see what Old Roy looks like with new shoes!

Great size for these trucks. I got 4 kumo tires installed for 460cdn. I'll run these while building the truck then the BFGs are a must. The cheap ones have week sidewalls compared to bfg

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

That is a good deal. 100 bucks less than tirerack.com's best price on the same set of 4 tires with free shipping.

Yeah, the sad thing is that I almost pulled the trigger on tirerack.com. They have a deal where you can pick up your tires at one of their warehouses and get $40 off. I would have had to drive an hour round trip and still pay $60 more than Discount Tire.

Tracking info says these tires will be here tomorrow. That's two business days. Not bad!

Oh, will do for sure!

Fair warning... These tires are not going on Rally Rims, they are going on 8" wide 6-lug rims painted black with a set of COPO hubcaps on them.

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

Thanks for the information on the discount tire ebay deal. I have a set of 6 lug 15 x 8" rally wheels to replace my original wheel and dogdish with 12 year old tires. Now that I am daily driving it, I figured I was on borrowed time.
Ordered yesterday and scheduled for delivery today. Hard to beat.

Re: The 255/70/15 Database

Tires showed up yesterday. Dropped off the rims and tires at local tire shop for mounting and balancing.

The crazy thing is that the date codes on the tires showed that they were made about a week ago. I guess nothing gathers dust @ Discount tire!

Hope to have pics sometime this weekend.

Thats funny! In a good way. I was going to suggest these. https://www.discounttiredirect.com/b...at3-4s/p/36825

I have a similar set of Cooper APT series on my rig right now getting ready to be changed out before winter. They have over 70 k on them.

Great tire company, Cooper that is.

Thats about the average price these days. Around here tey want 12.00 to pop a scrap tire off a rim and then another 5.00 if you want to leave the tire with them.

Thanks! I was actually looking at those as well, but was worried that they would look too aggressive for a vintage 2-wheel drive truck. Maybe not, oh well.

I think some shops do that if you bring in tires to them as a way to not only make money, but to stop you from buying online or at other shops. They will sometimes charge less (or even toss it in for free) if you're buying tires from them.

My work estimate from Fleet Farm says the following charges:
Mounting: $7.99/ea
Valve Stems: $1.99/ea
Balance: $6.99/ea
(Shop Supplies: $4.19)
Total Estimate: $72.07

Those seem like fair charges to me.
