GM 2 Jet Carb Question

Any tricks to rebuilding them? I took it apart and it looks pretty straightforward.

Anyone do rebushing of the base/throttle shaft bores? Mine's a little sloppy. Alternatively if anyone has a good base with throttle shaft and everything that might work as well.

Best supplier of rebuild kits? I'm assuming NAPA has the kits. Luckily mine still has the metal tag on it with the number 7028105.

There's a long rod with a spring on it that drops down from the cover and I guess engages the little sprung plunger fitting in the bottom of the bowl--is this supposed to move up and down or is it fixed? No pics, I think it's about 2" long. Not sure why it would be spring if it didn't move--mine won't budge.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dave.

Ive not seen that rod before. Cliff's High Performance in Ohio gets good recommendations for working on the throttle plates. In fact that's where my is now.

Re: GM 2 Jet Carb Question

Thats your power piston, it should push in maybe 3/8s inch and push itself back out. that contacts the power valve..

And operate she does now, thanks. That might account for the sluggish performance at low speeds, just taking off correct?

Re: GM 2 Jet Carb Question

Hopefully, I'm not sure what the symtoms of the stuck power piston would be. but it can only be a good thing to have it functional again. let us know if you notice any difference in low speed performance..

Re: GM 2 Jet Carb Question

If it was stuck in the down position then it would be flooding the engine at low revs I believe which would follow the sputtering performance and the gas leakage from the throttle shaft--but then again I've never been that good with carbs!
