New project underway! My first!

I couldn't resist the urge any longer, so I broke down and bought myself a 71 k5 Blazer. A lot of work to do, but the basics are there...

Questions:
1. I'm thinking line-x or rhino liner for the whole interior and just throwing down rubber mats. Will it get too hot? It does have a 2" body lift so there'll be a little distance between the exhaust and floor.
2. Anyone have billet dash cluster? I'd like to get one, but have concerns with sun glare? Anyone experience this?

Re: New project underway! My first!

looks like a nice base to start. we love pics so post up more.
1. i dont think the line x will cuz it to be to hot. lots of 4x4 guys use it in and under the rig.
2. they make billet dash bezels so dont think the glare will be any worse than it is off the glass or lense of the gages.

Re: New project underway! My first!

The Line-X is not a heat barrier.... use Lizzard Skin on the underside, OR ask the line-x guys if you can put the Lizzard Skin down under the Line-X... there may be compatability issue with the two products...

I don't know why but something tells me the line-x would make it like an oven inside...

Re: New project underway! My first!

Welcome to the board. I know a lot of guys run bedliner on their interiors...never really heard a complaint about the heat....my 71 had it but I put pad and carpet over it.

Re: New project underway! My first!

As said above by mcmlix bed liner materials are not a heat barrier but Lizzard Skin is made up different, it does claim to be a heat barrier. I can't testify to that claim but others can, I have Al's Liner on my complete floor, looks good but it's hot. Most likely due to the motor/exhaust heat, truck has no lift which may give you a little better air flow. If I were to do it again it would be Lizzard Skin underneath cab then carpet and pad. And thats just one option.

Re: New project underway! My first!

I have a liner on my roof in/out, and on the floor. I think it's Rhino but not certain. It doesn't block out the heat. I have dual 2.5" flows and I can feel the warmth.

Re: New project underway! My first!

you will feel the heat liner or no liner. only way to block it is with isulation like jute or lizard skin. i had bare painted floors in my 84 c10 and the floors were hot.

Re: New project underway! My first!

someone on here found a product to add to your own paint or bed liner. I think it was hollow ceramic beads.. creates a layer for a heat barrier...

found it ... http://www.hytechsales.com/insulatin...additives.html

Re: New project underway! My first!

The top that came with the truck was hammered, so I found this grey one in excellent shape as a replacement. My 14 year-old in the background will be the liucky driver on this when it's done (if he behaves).

Getting ready to refinish the top. Need to decide if I want smooth or textured like original.

Re: New project underway! My first!

Finally getting the body ready... Adding a few more pics...

Found some old brass filler in a couple places. For the most part I'm, happy with what we found... pretty virgin. I was nervous for a bit.

Re: New project underway! My first!

Still not 100% on the color scheme.... down to dark silver/light grey metallic (not as dark as this one) with a black top or staying with blue (adding a metallic, like a "Lemans Blue" and a white top. Similar to original.

I need to decide pretty quick...

Opinions?

Re: New project underway! My first!

My vote is for the blue/white combo but I'm biased... I feel like blue is less common and the white top keeps the "vintage" look.

Re: New project underway! My first!

Decided on the blue. Corvette Nassau blue in fact. I originally wanted the Jetsream Corvette blue, but at $1k/gal I passed. Nassau is $350/gal... better.

Coming along. Ordered all of the roll cage material... removed the 2 fuel tanks (original & PO added) - installed new 31 gal fuel tank, refinishing the top, tilt column, ceramic headers, new windshield, new bumpers, powder coating hinges, mounts, core support... new urethane bushings, all new nuts and bolts, bought new seats... should be in the booth in 2 weeks!

It's going to be a beautiful truck. That should be some good incentive for your young-un to mine his p's & q's.
