Square Body Front Coil Over Conversion.

has anybody done a full coil over conversion on there 73-87 c10. pics part number ext would be appreciated.

also would a early 70s late 60s lower A arm work on a square body. i ask because ride tech offers a lower arm for coil overs but only for the 70 era. the top arms can be any configuration and i can fab my own coil over frame mount. so i really only need to find an A arm that will support an coil over for a 73-87 c10.

Poterbuilt would be easier since hes done did all the guess work you'll do if you try to wing it yourself.

That's the issue I've come across too. Nobody sells just the simple setup. You have to buy the whole front dropmember. PB, ridetech and scotts are all the same.

Re: Square Body Front Coil Over Conversion.

With the ifs kits you get a lot more with it,Most center the wheels in the openings narrow the track width some plus lower it and you get rack and pinion.Doing all that yourself might sound cheaper and easier but its really not cheaper and you could get the numbers wrong and screw up the handling.

Go Porterbuilt! It's worth every penny. Love my setup, can't wait to get it back on the road.

Re: Square Body Front Coil Over Conversion.

well coil over set ups are remarkably simple to build. Im already doing a complete custom rear 4 link i designed myself.

-coil overs are 700 for ridtech HQ
-bushing totaled to about 180
-tubing will run 35$ for DOM
-i did custom notches that are way higher quality than any after market ive seen for about 200$

and my time which is free for myself obviously. = $1,115

PB wants $2,000 for the base price of the same thing this does not include coil overs....and you still have to install it yourself.... I guarantee mine is stronger and more adjustable than theirs. not trying to argue but buying is always more expensive than building. Obviously were all in different positions when it comes to life, mine just allows me to design and build my own stuff.

That being said PB wants $1,400 for their front end kits which also dont include the coil overs in the price. so +700 for RT (HQ)

IN reality the only thing i would like to have done for me is the lower A arm.. ill probably rip a set out of a junk yard and design my own using factory geometry.

My estimates are
$700 for RT (HQ)
lets put aside $400 for materials for lower arms, mounts, and any consumables.

that puts me at $1,100 total into the front end. ill end up with a good quality front end at a lower price and at a lower ride height, and i have the ability to again design a front end that allows for adjustable heights and adjustable coil over angles which can change the handling characteristics.

Re: Square Body Front Coil Over Conversion.

this is my truck before i started any work this winter. the rear is a little lower than id like, but ill be correcting that with rear coil overs. im going to go level with the front height, coil over all 4 corners... although i might have to wait to do the front next winter.

Re: Square Body Front Coil Over Conversion.

custom designs i came up with. i may give these away for free after i do some testing with the finished product at the strip or autocross. If the front coil-over i design ends up being any good i give the designs out for free as well.

will a lower control for coilovers from ridetech work on a 73-87 c10, since they are for 67-72 years?

We have a front kit for the 73-87 as well. The part number is 11362699 for the upper and lower arm set and brackets and 11333510 is the coilover part number.

Oh sweet, thanks for the number, i spent a lot of time on the RT website the past couple weeks never saw the coil over A arm kits in the 73-87 section.

do your arms change the caster angle or make any changes to the camber angles during hard cornering?

Unfortunately, the Strong Arm coilover set part numbers are not on the website yet because we don't have a bolt-in rear coilover kit to match. It is the same as the 63-72 model trucks but with different balljoints.

The coilover part numbers for the 73-87 are the same as the 63-72 because it uses the same length shock and spring rate. We are planning to build a rear coilover kit for the square fender trucks but it just hasn't made it on the schedule yet.

C/O's are just more adjustable/tune-able. That's it.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Factory arms utilize a different style of bushings (6x-72; 73-87/91). They're minimally different in size.

not to mention the ride tech coil overs have a 1 million mile warranty, and yes are adjustable as well. it will give the truck much sportier suspension as well as ride better on the highways and city streets.

cant really use the truck as a truck anymore unless you add over load bags however. but for me personally the heaviest things i haul around are dirt bikes or engines. im not exactly worried about the load capacity anymore. i have a newer stock truck for that.
