Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

OK, Here's mine. 1984 GMC C1500, 250 inline, TH350. Used to be a Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) truck at a state park in Indiana. It was used hard but well maintained. 114K miles. I'd like to re-paint the old state park emblem on the doors when the restoration is finished.

I'm running a high flow cat and the long Smitthy's muffler, the exhuast note is nice but pretty quiet.

I wish it was as nice as the pics make it look, needs the usual body work on floor, cab corners and rockers.

Usually get 15-20mpg with regular 'country roads driving', more like 13 on the highway (darn TH350!).

I've have I-6 with 117k in a 73/89 1 Ton 4x4... The problem is I have no idea which I-6 it is. I don't know much about the I-6 motors, I'm Strictly a V8 Guy.

It's Identical to StepinNJ's I-6

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Here's mine - 1980 250ci with a turbo 400 and a 12 bolt. Used the factory split manifold to create true duals with dual cats and 15" glasspacks. More info in my build thread at 1980 Stepside Build... My first build thread

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=616795

Truck is currently torn apart getting prepped for paint.

easiest way is these pictures. More than likely it is a 250 or 292.

The 292 will have the fuel pump behind engine mount. There are other things different, but these pictures should help you.

SteppinNJ's engine is a late model 250 with the integrated head - just like mine! Mine only looks different because the PO pulled a bunch of the emission equip off, including the "boxes" on top of the valve cover.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Wow, this is an old thread! My old stepside with the inline 6 is posted just a few pages before as 2bits but that was a long time ago. I also had a TH400 on the truck and people kept saying the 6 cylinder couldn't "push' the transmission. I never understood that, it ran awesome with it.

A couple of weeks ago I finally found another. It is a '79 Stepside (Soon to have a 74 grille) and has the integrated head 250, but I am not worried about it because it runs perfect and it has the factory add-on AC and power steering and the brackets are different for the non-integrated head. Plus if it an't broke don't fix it! It has a three on the tree which I will be swapping for an automatic at some point though.

I picked it up running great for $1500 all I've done so far is get it legal. Working on campers right now, but I just had to at least get it in my driveway since the combination of a loaded 6 cylinder stepside was too rare to pass up.

How do you go about taking all that stupid emission bs off? besides that, in the process of replacing the TOB & PB in my Bulldog SM465 Transmission.

When you get ready to swap out your trans, let me know. I would love to convert mine back to a three on the tree!

And here I thought for 25 years I had the only homemade looking AC bracket like that in the world.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Yeah, those brackets are freaky eh! You're has the AC controls built into the upper right corner of the dash bezel next to the vent right?

Oh chevDog, when I do the swap I'll be sure to let you know, I'll be installing a tilt column so all that will come out along with the pedal assemblies. I am liking the three on the tree right now too!

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

I learned to drive in a 1956 Chevy 3100 with a 235 and three on the tree. It would be kind of nostalgic to get that setup back in my truck since it was originally equipped that way.

My A/C controls are in the usual place between the vent and the radio.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Here is mine. Trying to decide if I want to pull it and add some power or not. It already gets terrible gas millage. It started out as a 3 on the tree truck and the owner before me put a TH350 in it.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Six in a row is the only way to go!

I'm a diehard six fan. Always will be. I've owned a lot, and god willing, I'll own more before I'm done. Love the Stovebolts the best, but I have to admit a sweet spot for 240/300/4.9 Brand-X motors, and who can resist a Slant Six?

Nothing sounds as sweet as a six warbling away. Don't care who makes it.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Fixed the carb problem, it runs, not good but it runs. Pcv valve was toast causing all sorts of problems. However, still need to find a varajet 2 in decent shape so I can rebuild my carb. One of the vacuum valves on the 1979 carb stopped working, also need the right specs for the throttle cable. Check out one of my thread's, yell might like the build of my updated 73 GMC.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Anybody on this board running a 270 or a 302?

My buddy's dad had a Korean War-era crane with a 302 and a straight pipe, and it sounded so good! Such neat motors.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Love it, ChevDog!

Also, greetings from SE Portland. I grew up in Aloha, and the Gales Creek/Spruce Run/Nehalem/Wilson River area is my favoite place on earth.

Also, my brother is building himself a house in Banks as I type this--just off Pihl Road.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

I'm just across the valley from your brother's new place. Probably only 2-3 miles as the crow flies. And I work in SE PDX. Spend more time here than I do at home.

I grew up in Forest Grove and Banks, and have family out in Gales Creek. Spent much of my youth (which was some time ago....) riding dirt bikes in the Tillamook State Forest - up around Brown's Camp.
