i like the wireing setup on that one a lot. well thought out. These fans draw so few amps though that i can just leave them running all the time. It hasnt overheated so far. It's been through some HOT summers too. But there would be a power increase if they were only on then the temp was up. I think im gonna get me a temp switch.

I put the fan and radiator in my 4x4 from a 91 Lumina APV. I haven't got a relay for it yet, just a 10A toggle switch and keep an eye on the temp gauge.

I read the other day that the temp sensor should be in radiator instead of the block. The fan should come on when the hot water is sent to the radiator. The thermostat lets the cooled water from the radiator back into the block. Kinda makes sense to me.

Seems like I bought a thermostat at Advance for about what he paid for a water heater stat. Comes with everything, including directions. I'm using a GM relay that I cut out of a olds, I think it might have been the AC relay. Nice weatherproof plug on it(these work great for the headlights too).

cheaper than "Painless"
I found this today at Pep Boys. It has everything you need. Fuse, relay, temp probe, hardware and wire harness for 30 bucks. That is much cheaper than "Painless" and has the radiator temp probe instead of the block sending unit.

I think the fans need to come on when the heads on the motor get to a certain temp. Common knowledge that engine (head area) needs to be about 200 to make good power and under 240 to keep from doing damage, so the fans should come on when the engine itself gets above that tempature and give extra cooling to the water which inturns cools the motor. my truck cycles perfect, fans kick on when the motor gets up to 205 and cuts off when it cools back down to 185 (think)

This is going to start something I think. LOL.
The fans do not cool the block. They cool the water that has left the block because it got too hot and the thermostat returned it to the radiator. I agree the head temp should be as you say but the thermostat in the block takes care of that. The type in the pic also comes in an adjustable model.
