Bench seat track, questions.......

I dropped the bench seat off at the upholster today and I kept the seat tracks so I could "rehab" them before the seat is done.

Inspecting them it seems as a aluminum rivet needs to be removed for them to come apart?

There would be no reason to take them apart. I restore tracks and frames on a regular basis. Just sandblast them, that's all they will need. Blow or rinse them off with water. Repaint and lube, and you have yourself new looking & working tracks. Too bad you didn't' rehab your frame before taking it.

Re: Bench seat track, questions.......

I was thinking of doing the frame, I had the seat in the bed of the truck as I was cleaning up around the house. I passed by the upholster and he was open, so I dropped it off.

Those frames always have springs that are broke on the ends. The changed the frames right around 80-81

The first 2 pics are your frame, you can see in the 2nd pic, the spring on the end is broke.
Pic #3 is a 81-87 frame. There is a big difference in the frames.
Last pic is the replacement spring. I put 2-3 on each end. If they are not broke, I replace them anyways, because they are notorious for breaking.

LMC has those springs. Here's a link, Front Bench Seat Components Item #3

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=72

They fasten to the last spring, the one that goes from front to back of the frame. Use these 3 prong fasteners, 2 per spring. So if you use 2 springs for each end, that's 4 springs and 8 fasteners.

Yours didn't have one? Most of them are still there on the seat.

Re: Bench seat track, questions.......

Nice work on the seats! I just did some part swapping on a couple seats of my own and it wasn't difficult at all.

Re: Bench seat track, questions.......

On my 1969, the outer perimeter wire is snapped in two pieces, where can I buy the seat part thar I need? I don't want to buy a whole new seat, because I have already bought the cover, foam, ect. to rebuild it.
