Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet with PTO winch

Just went and looked at a '64-'66 K10 Short-Fleet.
The truck was a Florida ranger's truck... the cab rotted from the inside out. Even the dash, next to the steering column, is rotted.
It's got an extra bed that could probably be saved, a nice extra hood, didn't get a good look at the extra door in the bed.

292, Granny 4speed, Deluxe heater, full instrument cluster (no tach or air gauge, block-off-plates), and power brakes. Non-stock wheels.

For me, one of the big points of interest was the complete PTO winch set-up.

Guy is asking $2,500 for the whole thing.
I've already got a line on a divorced NP205 and complete PTO from a member here, so probably wouldn't be getting it. I'm strapped until the middle of April, with every dime going towards producing my Gear Jam Vintage Drags.

I'd hate to part out a factory 4x4, but I've already got a '62 Long-Step K10 that is the truck I really want.

Two questions: Anybody have any idea how many short-fleet K10s were made? (I've read the numbers are available... I don't know if it's '64, '65 or '66).
Where is the VIN tag on these trucks?

Last question: Thoughts?

With you brad on the PTO set up, notice you have a power wagon, I have a 67 Fargo power wagon 3/4 ton step side crew, with factory PTO (next project) Sounds like the ranger tuck would be a great project. Love those PTO's.

Yeah... I'm already building one truck around a VIN... Building a second around a PTO seems... borderline retarded!
But it wouldn't be the dumbest automotive thing I've ever done, either.
Come to think of it, though, I put a Granny 4spd in the Power Wagon... I wonder if the PTO from the ranger truck would work with that trans?

Not sure but dodge and gm used I believe the same 205, and ford a different one, think it was because pumpkin was on different side. Also something about different splines count in available 205,s (earlier version vs later), not an expert, but you could be lucky.

The PTO on the ranger truck is probably on the transmission and will not fit a Power Wagon transmission with out a gear change and it may be difficult to find gears for that vintage of PTO.
You should be able to find a PTO to fit the transfer case of the Power Wagon easy enough what does it have NP205 or NP203?

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet with PTO winch

I'm not sure if it's a 203 or 205 in the Power Wagon. I THINK it's a 205, but not sure.
The set-up I'm getting from you is perfect--I'll be able to make that '62 K10 my daily driver with that whole set-up, and still have the PTO winch.
The Power Wagon is essentially going to be my son's, once I get the K10 on the road. He's 21, and I've got a pipe dream of him in the Dodge and me in the K10, joining an off-road club and going and having fun in the woods with our vintage trucks. He likes the idea, too. We've already swapped to a crate Magnum engine, swapped out the trans and transfer case (the one in it was full-time 4wd, the one I swapped in has 2Hi, 4Hi and 4Lo). It's been a couple years since I did the swap. (I need to swap out the axles next--the '76 front bearings have issues, and it doesn't have lock-out hubs. I've got another set of matched axles, but they're a bigger bolt pattern so I'd have to buy wheels, too). It'd be kinda cool for both trucks to have PTO winches.
Until then, it's a power booster away from being my daily driver.

It sounds like you swaped in a 205 for the orginal 203. I do have another 205 PTO and a Ramsey PTO winch I may consider parting with.

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet with PTO winch

Went back and found the VIN today.
K1445A

1965 4x4 short bed pick-up truck, built in Atlanta.
I was at a junk yard today and might have found an excellent donor cab off a '65 C30, and they also had a short fleet bed over by the take-off truck beds, but I forgot to go look at it. I'm going back on Monday.

Re: Just looked at a '64-'66 K10 short fleet with PTO winch

Haven't decided if I'm getting it or not. If I DO get it, I'd hate to part out an original K10. Numbers seem to indicate this is one of only 633 built.

Do you come to the NE Georgia Swap Meet? Send me your email address, and I'll get you the dates for the year.
