71 bowtie on grill

I replaced my grill and can't remember which way is up. I installed it with the wide part down. Is that correct? It looks OK wither way, but I want it to be right.

Re: 71 bowtie on grill

Pretty sure wide part up is stock, so it sort of points down a bit. I just put the bowtie on my 72 and after a search on here with the same question, that seemed to be the consensus.

If you have an OEM one to reference, it has "top" stamped on the backside.

Wide part up, like it's leaning into the wind.

EDIT: OR maybe not...see next post...

I think this picture would suggest the wide side is at the bottom. This was an NOS one I recently sold. You can see "TOP" is printed on the narrow side.

Re: 71 bowtie on grill

Wow, mine is on upside down then. Here's a pic of the old one that I assume is stock, TOP printed on the narrow side. Other pic is of the new one installed, apparently, upside down. Learn something every day. At least it's easy to flip.

Hey 402, that might be the one you sold me, now installed. Looks great by the way.

I'm happy to hear that! Yes, you are correct--I didn't even realize that until you mentioned it haha

Re: 71 bowtie on grill

Thanks for the help! I chose the wide side down by noticing the notch on the ends lines up better in that position.

Reminds me of the Toyota FJ40's. Virtually everyone puts the entire grill on upside down.
