Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

I am looking at wheels which means that the project is getting closer to being done and really like the Wheel Vintiques 60 series Pontiac Rallyes so...

Anybody done this? They come in a 15x8, 5x5, with 4" backspacing, and will accommodate the 1/2" lug studs of my 72 C10.

8" may be too narrow for me. I'll have to see what my current roller wheels are. The 400 motor has about 350 HP with 307 gears...8 inches may just spin off the rubber too easily.

4" backspacing (in combo with the 8" width) may be too much. I'd like to widen the stance out closer to the fender edges (maybe spacers).

16 or 17" diameters might be better, but these don't come that way. I'd kinda like a taller tire than 15" rims would support.

Not to mention, my truck sports a Pontiac 400 motor so it would be fitting if these would work for me. I have plenty of research to do with this decision, but thought I would start here at the forums and ask for thoughts, concerns and experiences?

My other interests are the smoothies and the later model truck rallyes.

Go for it. I ran factory Rally II's on my S10 Blazer for years. I had the rears widened to 8 inches and 275/60's mounted. Put the basic chrome center cap with the arrowhead on them. I loved the look. There are some photos around here of C10's with Pontiac wheels.

Here is link to the 15" wheel thread that I'm sure should show every conceivable combination of 15" wheel and tire size available today.

A little photohsop'n. Sorry if I stole a fellow member's truck and committed sacrilege! It was the first two-tone straight side shot I found on the web. I think I got the scaling real close. I compared it to photos from the link that HO455 supplied. Side window height seems to be about the same as a 15" rim diameter.

Looks pretty good!

I don't know the answers to most of your questions, but I run 12.5 X 33 BFG All-Terrains on my 8 inch rally rims, but mine's 4WD. I think those Pontiac rims would look sharp on a 2WD truck.

Re: Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

Had a set of take off Pontiac RallyIIs from a 70 Bonneville on a 71 C10 back in the early 80s. Believe they were a 15x6 with Factory Pontiac trim rings andVega GT Center caps. Liked ‘em, would have thought they were a factory option for the truck ( people asked me about that). Sorry I don’t have a picture from that old truck. I think you’ll like the choice though .......

Most Pontiac rally 2s were 4.75" pattern, but the big B bodies were 5x5 15x6"
I have a lot of those 5x5 rallys that I run on one of my car trailers. Used to be nobody wanted the 5x5 wheels at the swap meets.

Re: Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

You can get new repop Rallyes in both the 5x5 and 5x4.75's and since I have a 67 GTO (next to be restored) and will likely use spacers to get the wider stance on the truck...I may use wheel spacer/adapters and use the 5x4.75's for interchangeability.

BUT, I noticed yesterday that some one is making cast aluminum Rallye copies in a 17"- 8 & 9 rim. They look real cool so my research continues. I'm too old to be a fan of the larger rim sizes (yeah...17" rims are large to me), but might be good for a 2WD truck with a 1" body lift. The cast aluminum rims don't seem to come in a 16 or I'd be super hot to trot. I will not be putting these on the GTO...I've had it too long and could not get used to so much wheel and so little sidewall. 15's are as big as I can imagine in the wheel well of an old car.

Re: Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

I have run into a bit of a problem trying to get the Wheel Vintiques Rallyes on the truck (in my head and on paper).

I could go with about a 1-1/8" thick spacer/adapter for the back and get everything to fall in a good place (using the 15x10 - 5" back spacing), BUT...

The front hub has a big nub (3" plus diameter hub nub) with the grease cap on it that will not go into the rally wheel. I have an old original 15" rim to dry fit and it just won't go. I did some quick measurements and the front wheel would require a minimum of a 1-3/4" thick spacer/adapter. That seems kinda thick for my comfort, not to mention adding some extra thickness for good clearance in case my crud way of maesuring was off a bit. I could have a hub-centric adapter made to fit the the truck hub, but there is no way to do hub-centric with the wheel...it's just not made that way, it's stud-centric.

I am wondering if a 2" thick spacer, half hub, half stud-centric is too thick for my slightly souped up build?

It's amazing how much research goes into "getting away forom stock"!

This new discovery may very well take me away from the 15x10's and back down to a 15x8, which is not horrible IMO. The 15x10's would stick out too far for my taste and the 15x8's would be jsut inside where I want them.

If the 2" spacer idea is beyond comfort, the Wheel Vintique Rallyes are out and I'm not sure if the Cast Aluminum ones will work either...I wonder if they are hub-centric. The cast 17" ones want a thicker spacer due to the offsets, but the hub/stud-centric still applies. If the cast ones are hub-centric...they are probably not bored for a Chevy truck.

Time for more research...too bad nobody is open on Saturday.

Re: Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

After all was said and done, I backed off the Pontiac Rallye wheels. The 2" spacer just moved the wheels out too far for my liking. If the Rallye wheels came with much less backspacing, the 2' spacer combo would have had promise, but they don't so I have ordered the ones below. No spacer required, but i will have to find a lower profile dust cap for the fronts so that the center cap can be installed. I should get them mounted in the next week or so.

Re: Wheel Vintiques 60 Series Pontiac Rallye Wheels on our trucks?

The Mr. Gasket Chrome Dust Caps (Part Number 2486) did the trick and the new wheels look very good in my eyes. Too bad about the Pontaic Ralleys, but the old truck has landed well in the new shoes...
