Horn Not Working
The horn on my 98 Silverado stopped working. I straight wired it and the horn it's self is fine. I believe it's the pad under the airbag on the steering column and have no idea how to remove it safely and what replacing the pad entails...anyone been through this before? Thanks....Dan

Re: Horn Not Working
Seen those bumper stickers that say, "Horn Broken. Watch for Finger" ?
Whenever removing the air bag, I think the main thing to remember is that the battery must be disconnected and then you must wait for a minimum of time specified by GM, before you try to disconnect the wiring to the airbag. If I thought it was 10 minutes, I don't remember if I would be right or wrong. I think there are several screws on the back side of the wheel that hold the airbag. Then, there should be the wiring that has to be disconnected. I thihk the rest of the steering wheel removal is as done on non-airbag vehicles, once the bag is out of the way. If you don't have a Haynes or Chilton's manual, you should get one or at least borrow/read one before you do this to be sure you understand what you need to do before removing the airbag. If someone else has the experience that you need, I'm sure they'll jump in and let you know if I am wrong....and I hope they will.

Re: Horn Not Working
You pretty much have it correct. I think you only have to wait like 5 minutes, but I would wait 10 just to be safe. There should be four torx screws like ChevLoRay mentioned on the back of the steering wheel that release the airbag part, and the rest is just like all the other wheels.

Re: Horn Not Working
I'm thinking on the 98-up steering wheels, I think there if 4 tabs you press in through holes behind the bag or through the gap behind the bag and wheel.
