Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Got more progress Put the front clip on the frame to align the new core support we got. Finally found one for a good price and locally. Also put the radiator in to see how it fits and where we need to install an electric fan. And we got to see how the front stance looks and where the tire fits in the wheel well. Pics.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Ok solved the gas tank problem with the tpi unit we found a parts provider called rock auto and i had great service with them and there shipping it was shipped half way across the country and it got here in 3 days. we got a 1992 s10 blazer gas tank and used the sending unit for it and a 1986 corvette fuel pump all for $208 that included shipping it was great.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

got a lot done today cleaned up the gas tank we got and put the first coat of metallic silver Rustoleum. also finished up fabbing the transmission crossmember and also found we will have to move the brake booster and master cylinder back because of the transmission cross member. I got a lot of pictures taken of our progress.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Thank you again everyone but I am very surprised that you guys have not had more questions because when I look at everyones threads on here there are lots of questions about different things. Is it because no one is doing what we are doing or am i doing a good job of explaining things.

I think what you are doing is rather unique and your pics are thorough. Those two things keep some of the questions from needing to be asked.
Keep the piocs and info coming as this is a nice build.

I'll ask ! Just curious about the upper a-arm mount (post #3)
Will you be gusseting that plate ?
Not suggesting anything because I don't know, just looks like it could be stronger ?

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Well NONHOG we have done lots of research on the internet and we have found that other hotrods that have corvette front suspension do not have gussets on that same plate. But after we get it on the road and notice if it has flexed at all then we may think about gusseting that plate.
Kim thanks again and you are probably right we try to take lots of pictures of what we are doing and i have not noticed another thread that has literally started from the ground up.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

what are your plans about the gas tank filler neck?? It looks really close to the frame rails. Im thinking of swapping to the blazer tank and trying to head off potential problems

thanks

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Well that we have not decided we have 2 different ideas.
1. Do what everyone else does and go through the bed wood.

2. Since we are building our own bed later on we may since the filler opening is on the side put a hose through the stake pocket and use a smaller flush filler cap so that it looks hidden.

We figure that it is already a very unique build and we may as well do something different for this.
