Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I think I'm leaning either vette ls2 or an f-body pan. Anybody use an aftermarket sheet metal pan? Don't wanna go with a modified stock pan because of oil capacity reduction.

Go look in the Lsx swaps thread in the Engine section and take a look there --- I think there is a list of what works there.

The stock LY6 pan worked fine in my chassis...it won't fit in yours?

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Oh, no it fits fine. Ample room in all directions my problem is it hangs lower than I like. I'm going to have a dropmember made kinda like the porterbuilt one but not as expensive. Being that the pan is just about the lowest point up front already I'm a little uncomfortable with that.

hey I was wondering which adapter plates you used and how you fixed your problem that you had. I bought the swaptech adapter plates, which look like the ones you got but want to be sure. My engine is not lining up with the motor mounts so I was thinking maybe we had the same problem. Also do you happen to know what part number is on your clam shells?

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Mast Motorsports now sells a "universal" LS oil pan they custom built that is supposed to clear like 90% of the applications out there. May want to check into that. Also, Pacific Fabrication sells a VERY nice LS engine crossmember which is what I used on my project. Build's coming along good though man - keep the pics coming!

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I fixed the motor mount problem by going back to o'rielly's and having them get me the right part. The mounts they had listed for an '87 didn't match what my truck had so I went back and got ones for an '86. Thanks for the input on the oil pan, I'll have to check it out.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Sorry for asking so many questions but are those the swaptech mounts? I got oe replacement motor mounts and checked them with the '86 and they seem to be identical, so I dont know what is going on. The company thinks it might be engine brackets (clam shell motor mounts) so I might try that next.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I used the clam shell portion of the mount that was on my small block and yes they are swaptech adapters. The problem I had was with the motor mount insert part. I could get it to bolt onto the frame brackets, but it was upside down from how the old ones were. I took the old ones and new ones back to the store to see if they could match a part for me. The first ones I got had me using the opposite 3 mount holes that it should have been.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

It is still apart, but the motor is on the chassis. I'll try to find it tomorrow in the light if I remember though.
