Changing power steering pump

How difficult is it suppose to be to get the pump "seated" into the reservoir? I watched a few videos and they where able to push them in by hand. I of course had no such luck. I tried tapping around the outer flange with a hammer with no luck, finally a dead blow to the pump itself got it close, but the o ring is visible along the top edge and I can pry the two apart by hand.

This is a pump for an 87 R10 on my 63 C10. Anyone have any experience with this?

First picture is with the two sitting together, second the pump is beaten into place. Third picture shows the top edge not seated deep enough.

Re: Changing power steering pump

Is the stud on the pump lined up with the hole at the rear of the reservoir?
I'm assuming these two were together previously.
But I've done it before myself and have no wild tools.

No studs on the rear of this one, I do have two o ringed holes to line up where the bracket bolts up.
These two have not been together, the reservoir came with a remanufactered pump 5 or 6 years ago, the new pump appears the same as the original though.
I guess I need to take some detailed measurements between the two tomorrow.

Re: Changing power steering pump

Or remove the o-ring and see how it fits or not?
