Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

If I remember correctly, a standard 5/16" step bolt will work to anchor the seats, in a Suburban that has the fixed anchor plates.

Step Bolt. You can see the difference from a carriage bolt.
Thank you once again Captainfab

Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

May as well add my .02 cents worth!
I have the following:
62 GMC ----- 3 seat
65 GMC ----- 2 seat
65 Chev ----- 3 seat
65 Chev ----- 3 seat
66 Chev ----- 2 seat

All have "keyhole" fittings in floor for all rear seats. ;-)

Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

Forgot something! Looked at a 63 GMC 3 seated last weekend. It also had "keyhole" fittings for all rear seats ---- none had tracks...

Exactly why I'm replacing the seats in my 63.

My 65 was always a two-seater, but has the inserts for a third seat none the less. take note of the four slider windows and short second seat on the '62. That means the third seat is missing. A full width second seat and fixed rearmost windows on the '65 means it never had a third seat.
Thats funny .... Well used, ha !

No my friend, my 62 GMC is WELL USED !!!!

Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

OK, I found out something on my '62 GMC Burban ... not sure if this has been addressed or not.

My Burban uses the bolt in style into flanges, (not rails)

Although, the holes are different as compared to the 66 Chevy Burb seats I have ....
-
-
The following pictures are from the REAR (LARGE) SEAT FRAMES for comparison....

NOTE: The older fawn/rusty color is from my 62 GMC , and the lighter color is from the 66 Chevy:
-
-
-
-

-
-
-

-
-
As you can see, the lower portion of seat frame is constructed different, and the mounting points in different spots....

Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

Now the MIDDLE SEAT is off a bit too, but not as bad.

Only TWO holes are off in this case, and the tubing runs from LEFT to RIGHT so it will be just a matter of drilling two new holes in the seat frame.
-
Passenger side holes line up:
-

-

-

-
Screwdriver marks the floor mount, and area where a hole needs to be drilled in seat frame...
-

-
Front of frame is the same...
-
-
I ended up swapping the cushions from the 66 Chevy onto the 62 GMC frame for the rear seat .... PERFECT !!
-
-
Drill tow holes in middle seat, and I am good !
-
-
Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it !!

Hey John,

It seems there was no rhyme nor reason for these seat configurations.

Here are the middle and back seat to my '60 GMC. Different yet again.

So does this mean 63 and up (like the chassis) is common ?

And we are the oddballs ?

Re: Suburban rear seats and tracks, any info?

the tracks work the same as the cleats I.E. that they use a carriage bolt type mount but the benefit is you can slide the seat forwards and back reverse it ect. The tracks work like the tie downs in a toy hauler. I have a 64 GMC with the tracks, unfortunately my seat is out of Chevy and the rails don't line up with the tracks.
