SiX-fo SuBuRbAn

just got this today!
new project... lots of rust on the lower edges.
does run, but not very good 292 3 on the tree.
supposed to have a posi.
all the important suburban stuff is still there. (except the back seat)
the spare tire saved the grille! one of the best 456 grilles I have seen.
A bonus, the guy I got it from wanted the 62-6 hood for his swb in the background... so I get his discarded -perfect- 60 hood!

Re: SiX-fo SuBuRbAn

seat is just beautiful, it and the armrest must have been re-done at some point.

are these correct sub window locks?

I have to decide on a direction....
either really low (kinda leaning that way right now)
or 4X4 (my original plan)

Nice score Jon

Wow those seats are nice.

I say leave it 2wd and lower it just a little. Yes those are the original window locks. You have both of them?

yeah got 'em both!!
the floors are solid, the rear mat is perfect, the rockers front and rear cab(?)braces are shot, and the foot wells are rusted 3/4 of the way up te firewall...

I have a real solid truck cab with a bad roof, I am going to give all this a look over and see if the 2 can become 1.

right now I am thinking : cut the roof posts and then the rockers/inner rockers and about 3 inches of floor, and then across the floor in front of the seat...
we'll see what it looks like.

would love to do the full Dino style PB drop, but I don't have that kind of money!
maybe a c notch/springs/lowering blocks , dropped springs and spindles?
gonna have to check out the static drop thread again..

Sweet 'burb Jon. A 4x4 would really be sweet. Or how about a long arm front suspension like the one Dino did?

Livin in Montana the 4x4 sounds quite practical.

Re: SiX-fo SuBuRbAn

I am kinda leaning that way today
I need a classy winter rig, and mt is a good place to have a 4x4 for winter...

I have a mostly complete 83 sub 1/2 4x4 chassis, been thinking of shortening it and just dropping the burb body on it. I would just do a slight body lift to get it to clear all the late model crossmembers.

then I was thinking I could slowly customize the 2wd frame for a later date...

still don't know what I want to do..maybe I need to find another one

the 4x4 might be my cheapest option right now, about the only thing I would have to buy is a shorter rear driveshaft, as compared to getting the 292 running, and fixing the 3 speed column shift, and lowering.....

first , while I am deciding I will clip the front of the body and make it rust free.
I have been checking out the differences between the truck and sub floors, they are mostly the same, but there a few, I'll post up some pics of them when I get the 2 stripped down.

was also thinking that some bedsides (lower) off a lwb might be a cool way to fix the rust and leave a little more room for a 4x4 tire with the bigger lwb wheelwell.

Hey Jon, I have a much better idea, put it in your shop, dismantle it, fix all the rust and mechanical issues , put it all back together and give it a smoking hot paint job, then bring it down here to me and put it in my garage, problem solved and we are all happy! right? Jon, were happy rite? JON! where did he go?

Re: SiX-fo SuBuRbAn

I have 2 engine options, (besides the 292) a carb 396, or a '89 tbi 350.
any links on using the tbi motor w/out the factory computer?
I thought you could buy a kit to use one of these in an early vehicle.
