Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

ONLY buy window rubbers from Steele, they are the only company that sells the right molded ones. If you order from Brothers or any of the other cheaper places you will get a 10' length of rubber stripping that you have to cut and miter the corners, they are not worth the hours trying to make it look right nor the frustration.

Wow thank you for the info, I literally just walked in the door with rubber and felt from another company to rebuild my sliding windows. I will not open them and go look the Steele rubber. Do you have a link for them

I have the rally type off of an 86 Suburban on mine(5 lug), but the widest tire I can go is a stock 235/75R15. I had some 255/70R15 Firestone Firehawk's on it several years ago, but they were rubbing the wheel well whenever I hit bumps, so now I have stainless "frowns" on my wheel wells. I had them painted light green, the same as the body and they looked pretty good. Sorry no pics, but I cant get my pics to download.

Just google Steele rubber products in New York and search suburban. You will absolutely be hating life if you try to use the other ones. I don't think Steele has the felts so you will want those still but you do not want to make a 120 degree bend out of a straight piece of rubber.

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

Steele is the only way to go on slider window rubber I ordered both and ended up scrapping the other brands and using the steele products

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

CaptainFab. Do you by chance have any other pics of your suburban with that wheel tire combo. Maybe a shot from the front or back that will show the front and rear tires in reference to the fenders? I am just concerned about running 8" wheel on the front since I do plan on dropping the front down. I dry fit just a bare wheel on the front of mine and it comes out really close to the outer edge of fender.

I don't have any other pics available at the moment. I'll try and remember to take a couple tomorrow.

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

I did take some pics this morning, but I forgot to bring the memory card home. I'll post the pics tomorrow evening. I think you're right though, if you lower the front more than about 2 to 2-1/2" the 275/60R15's on the 15" x 8" ralley's will hit the fenders. This will be magnified with upgrading the front to disc brakes which moves the wheels outward aprox 3/4"

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

Some very nice Suburbans guys. I think that I wanna go with the nub style wheels. It stinks cause I got a nice set of four 15x8 rallys that are too wide for the front, and a nice set of four 15x5.5 nub wheels that are not wide enough for the rear. I been searching and it looks like I need to find a pair of 15x8 nub style wheels. Of course there look to be none close to where I live. Closest ones I found are over 8hrs away and he don't want to ship....I know the 7 inch six lug rallys are hard to find, but are 8 inch nub wheels just as scarce??

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

On my 64 Bodied, 62 Chassis, I got some Vintiques 62-5805044 15x8 and hit a great fit front and rear with 4.25" backspace, no fender mods. I believe you could actually put 15X9" on the back with a 4.75 or 5" backspace, which would take a custom wheel from another supplier. My rear end is stock with 5 bolt conversion. Front end is converted to coils with a big static drop from spindles and modified A arms, so may not be the same for yours.

Re: 65 Suburban. Need advice

Well weather been crappy lately but did finally get some suspension stuff done. Put 3 inch drop springs up front and 2 inch drop blocks out back. Put 5.5" nub wheels up front with 215/65/15 and 8" nub wheels out back with 275/60/15. Im happy with the ride quality. If I do go disk brakes and drop spindles later I got room to go down.
