Re: Cruise Control - to buy or not to buy?

for those of you installing cruise, wiring hint
you will need a relay if your still using stock brake switch to cut the lockup power
simple to do with a bosch type relay, this also is wired into my remote start
you can pull the power from any source this pulls power from the existing circuit

Question, with that really wired up like that, will you hear the relay click on and off every time you step on the brakes?

Re: Cruise Control - to buy or not to buy?

what exactly does the 87a wire do when it gets to the trans? is it the power source for the lockup? Why wouldn't it go back to lockup as soon as you release the brake pedal? Expiring minds want to know....

Re: Cruise Control - to buy or not to buy?

The lockup circuit has controls on both power and ground. Ground is controlled by vacuum and / or throttle based switches or ecm, and power is supplied by a NC brake switch or relay. The brake switch prevents accidental lockup while stopped at a light in gear or while decelerating.

Re: Cruise Control - to buy or not to buy?

87a is a normally closed contact in the relay off position, it opens (and closes 87) when power is applied
the 700r4 has no vacuum to it and as built, mine goes into lockup when it shifts into od (4th gear)
cutting power to the lockup when you hit the brakes gives some slip to the trans
if your above 4th gear speed (45 mph on truk) when you let off the brake, the converter will lock when you release the brakes
if the trans downshifts to 3rd then lockup will not happen
