Re: Project truck dream 65"

The way I look at it is; the repos may be beautiful, clean, and rust free, but I much rather have as much old steel as possible. It just sets better for me; Steel that was formed back in the 60's on a 60's truck. Mechanically I want the modern, but the body needs to be old steel - that's just me.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

i just read your thread and you have done alot of cool mods! i wish i would have seen the gas filler mod you did before i made mine! i'll have to reach over in the bed to just the inside-side panel to fill mine! i thought of buying new outer fender but i'm glad i just bought the patches and fixed mine with the poor fitment some people have with them!! have you thought of an exterior color yet? anyways good luck with the rest of the build!!

Thanks for the complement's ! Its tough to do it all,I know there are things I have seen here that I wish I'd a done as well.

And yes...,these aftermarket fenders are a nightmare,I don't know why they can't make a better product..,after all they have been making them long enough to know better.

Exterior colour is narrowed down to either white or a real cool green, still up in the air with that.

Thanks for the good wishes !Ill be posting here tom. as I'm done with the box now and want to get pics up of that,it turned out pretty cool.

Cheers,
Ed.

Ed!

Glad to see you made a build thread! Guess I'll have to follow suit one of these days. How's the engine working out for you??

I've had the pleasure of seeing this truck in person and it is a thing of beauty! The pictures only do it half justice.

Good to share ideas on this site.I know with several folks and there expertise here,I'v been able to implement countless mod's to my project.

Thanks for the good words Russ,I appreciate all the help the day I bought the motor from you.

Haven't done anything with it yet as the box was a big expense.Next will be more interior work !

Cheers,
Ed.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Finally,the box is finished.With a new Mar-K tailgate,rear crossill,and front box panel,the box looks incredible !

Tyler finished up yesterday, but we decided to let the final spray filler dry overnight and harden properly.

Stay tuned, more pics and details on the way!

Cheers,
Ed.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Today is box day ! Cant wait to make a coffee and open the blinds and...........................? What ?...,If you all can believe it,snow was coming down, second day of spring my a$$ !,@#!**!,

Of course the day I go to pick it up the roads look now like a winter pass somewhere in the Alps.

Anyway the sun came out,so all the crap melted and dried by the time Steve and I went to pick up the box.Was around noon,Its gonna be a great day,you gotta appreciate good luck like that !

We had the box tack welded onto the cart for safe transport,I was taking no chances !I couldn't imagine watching it come loose, bounce over the guard rails, then sinking to the bottom of Okanagan lake.I cringed just thinking about it !

Re: Project truck dream 65"

That is an interesting mod I hadn't thought of.

Filling the seam on the side of the bedsides where the tail light piece is spot welded on.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

HA HA ED great minds think alike I filled the seams as well .. made my own stake hole fillers out of a donor hood, one thing I did as well was take one inch flat stock and drill holes through it and weld it to the bottom of the box sides. They tend to flap around a bit even with the support rods in place.. I am NOT TELLING YOU TO MAKE ANY UPGRADES!!!! only what I did.. PS drop all tools and step away from the back of the cab!!

Is that the big yellow building out on the westside? on daimler I think? I drove by it the other day and was wondering what it was.

Box looks awesome.

I don't know if anyone has posted on this but my experience with re-pop metal is this, I have bought fenders, door skins, tail gate and other parts from 6 different vendors and there are several problems.
1-the gauge of the metal is much thinner.
2-the parts, none of them fit correctly
3-on top of not fitting right, the lines are way... and I mean way off. more on some than others.
I have a pile of stuff I bought and won't use and now I save original stuff just for patch pieces and material.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Today I played with box,cab and front end alignment.Looks to be pretty close, but Im a picky s.o.b. so Im sure it wil be moved around again 2 or 3 times.

I took some close up's to show some of the mod's' in detail.1st is the new fuel fill. The fuel cap sits a little high,so hopefully when paint is on the height will change. If not,I'll machine the cap down a few thou.
2nd is the front stake pockets. They were removed entirely.capped then smoothed on top.To compensate for the loss in structure strength, the top of the box was extended to the front bed panel and welded there.

You will notice that there are no fasteners at the box front.I decided to weld the front bed panel in place as this looks cleaner and achieves the look I want, they don't need to be there anyway.

Very nice as usual.

So just how does the fuel filler open for filling if it is flush?
