84 Sierra.

I'm starting to rebuild my 84 GMC Sierra. I've had this truck for 7 years, and have had it static dropped and bagged. My 1990 Silverado has died leaving me with no tranportation, so instead of rebuilding 2 trucks the 90 is being sold and I'm going to swap its NV-3500 5 speed, TBI and serpentine belts into my 84. I have a smallblock on the stand waiting to be freshened up and a donor frame for the static suspension pieces I need.

The airide stuff will go on the donor frame when I find a good cab.

More pics as progress allows.

Re: 84 Sierra.

Got the motor out of the 90 last night. It was easier than past engine pulls because I had already dropped the trans. All I I'm keeping from it are the belt drive, the throttle body, fuel lines and sensors. The clutch looks new so thats one less thing I have buy.

Instead of spending money I dont have on a TBI intake I think I'm going to use an adapter plate on the 4 barrel intake I have.

As soon as the 90 is out of the way I will start getting the bed off of the 84 and start on the suspension. Before I bought the donor frame I got a set of control arms from Chris (Captkaos) so I will not be using the donor's front suspension, I dont want to disassemble it with no weight on the front end.

Re: 84 Sierra.

3 years have blown past. Some updates are in order. The GMC never got TBi, the 90 Silverado is gone and so is all of the air ride from the truck.

Now the truck is back to a static suspension. I used the hangers and leafs from the donor frame, sold all the rest. The rest of the suspension is 3" drop springs and spindles, an axle flip and drop shackles.

I went to Summit in Atlanta and bought a 290 HP GMPP crate motor. It's bolted to 350 trans, and the donor truck's 12 bolt rear, with 3:08 gears. I'm running a serpentine belt drive, and everything has been painted black.

I'm very close to starting it, I have some wiring issues to sort, and need to swap from my 6.5" van ralleys to 7" truck ralleys.

I have more pics to post on my other computer, but these show from bagged to back to static suspension.

Re: 84 Sierra.

Rear suspension. On the frame you can see remnants of the Air Ride Technologies universal 4 bar mount, and the air tank strap. When I bagged the truck no one had a bolt on rear set up. I welded every bracket on, then a couple years later cut it all off.

Re: 84 Sierra.

See if I get any interest this time.

Crate motor in and it starts and runs. My trans leaks, been over everything, think I just need a new trans gasket. I do not have head or parking lights, however my signals and brake lights work. There are some things I'd do over, but with history with the truck I know I'll just keep working on it.

On to pics and vids.

First start.
