Post Would it be easier to............

I might get a 71/72 shortie frame from a local yard. Would it be easier to swap the 5 lug stuff to my frame or swap frames?

I agree. You've got brake lines, fuel lines, springs and the list goes on. Just swap the rear end and hook up the lines then change out your rotors and your on the road.

Change out your rotors???? WRONG!!!! if you're changing from pre 71 drum brakes to 71 5lug discs you need to change spindles balljoints and tierod ends. what other work are you planning to do? if you have rust repair in mind where you are going to lift the cab off the frame why not take the 71 frame do it all up ahead of time then lift the cab and switch it over ?? usually with the disc brake conversion it's easier just to transfer the whole crossmember assy in as a unit

My bad, I wasn't thinking straight. You'll have to change the spindles and/or the whole cross member. Very easy to do though. I agree with cdwhzk even if he is a total prick about it (as usual).

I'm sorry, I ment arogant prick because you act like you don't make mistakes. I made one and you said "WRONG!!" instead of being cool about it and maybe saying "that's not quite right" or "you forgot about...". It's basic maners that you lack not knowlege. I was just trying to help out and made a mistake. You always have some negative comment. Get over yourself and try to help people instead of trying to prove others wrong.

IMO....unless ya need another frame for other reasons, I would just trade out what ya need.. it's not a real big project to swap spindles, tie rods, and ball joints. (well the lower ball joints may be a pain if ya want to re-use them.. i'd probably just use new ones) but I am biased cause I have all those neato specialty tools for front ends (lot's of years under the alignment rack)
if you swap frames, you'll have a different number on the frame than the truck, and that could mess ya up one day...(doubtful, but remotely possible) plus.. if your truck is anything like mine... start pulling body parts and you will find all sorts of crap you didn't want to see (and of course will just have to fix while your there)
anyway, man good luck and let us know what ya decided to do
