73-87 WINDSHEILD SEAL - DELUXE, Cheap or expensive? does it matter

I was on BROTHERS TRUCKS website and called for a order. For front and rear
windsheild with chrome trim was $126 bucks. I told him to hold off and would call back. I called local glass shops and they want $18 bucks a piece.

Do the seals come from one place?? would there be a difference from
cheap and expensive seals?? If I have to pay the $$$$$$ for good seals
I will, But if I dont have to, I wont.

Where do you buy from?? or best place??

I just had my front window replaced. The glass guy said he would only install a Precision Brand seal. I paid him for it and it was like 33 bucks.

When the local glass shop put in my windshield replacement, they didnt want to put the chrome strip in but I insisted. After 2 years, it turned all brown. Now its peeling. Not sure what brand they used, but it must have been the cheapest one they could find.

Weird. I have a couple sets of GM still in the box NOS-they better not turn brown!

I bought a recommended name brand windshield gasket. I laid it out in the driveway in the sun for hours prior to the glass guy showing up, but he still had a heck of a time getting the windshield installed with the locking strip. He claimed that the new rubber was just too stiff. A few weeks later I noticed I had a crack in a lower corner of the glass. Same guy came back out with a new windshield and a couple of OEM gaskets from the salvage yard so I could choose one. Cleaned it up, glass went in with no problem and I've had no problem since. He flat out said that if your original isn't torn up, never get rid of it. Clean it up and re-use it.

The trick is to use lots of Dawn dishsoap to aid in positioning the seal around the glass, then inserting the assembly into the channel and using liberal amounts of soap to insert the locking bead whether plain black or chrome.

That's truth right there. My glass guy said the exact same thing.

Well I have did both the plain black hold up for longer looking nice, but the chrome will turn when exposed to UV light Heat & dirt after years. The less it see the longer the chrome last.
I do like the chrome look. I was thinking of getting a used black one painting the bubble side chrome seeing how long it last in back yard sitting in sun light rain a few years not moving.
