Stick on 3M Adhesive Trim for 60-66?

Anyone ever attempt to make their own? Polished aluminum bars and for the (usually white) strip 2 bars atop a thin guage sheetmetal?

IE.... with 3M Auto Ahesive you could simply stick on the front bars, front bar/door plate, and bed plate....

for example... lets say someone painted their truck.... they wouldnt have to drill holes for trim anymore.

To machine the molding to look good and replicate the original would cost mor than just buying the Mar-K stuff and sticking it on.

Here ya go:

touche... I'm not worthy... (and I need to get better at my search skills.... I gave that one a good 20 minutes worth of digging to nothing... you... 5 seconds)

Although I think I could come close to making them.... along with making the door and bedside pieces actually just 1 piece.... so that you could stick-on a white section vs. just 2 seperate bars and whatever paint is behind it....

The cab corners... would be entertaining... (getting the radius right)
The aluminum cost prior to machining isn't all that fun tho....nor is polishing/painting thereafter.

Re: Stick on 3M Adhesive Trim for 60-66?

I bought the molding for $459 shipped and have $40 in plastic strips, 3M tape and blades. Took 2 hrs to install it and another 2 hours to mask it off and shoot the white. Pretty cheap and easy. I'm all about doing things yourself, the American craftsman etc. But when there is a product made in USA, is fairly inexpensive and easy to install, I'm all over it. Same reason I don't cook over an open fire every meal

Yes, it's weird that you or 66lx posted that same request a few weeks back, I responded and it's gone??

I used 3M automotive high -bond attachment tape P/N 06389 7/8x.045 and Automotive acrylic plus attachment tape P/N 06386 1/4 x .045

Quick question
Why two diffrent types of tape?
and did you double it up or did a single strip work

Re: Stick on 3M Adhesive Trim for 60-66?

My truck originally had no moldings. I plan to 3m my moldings on after the truck is painted. The only hitch was how to know where to paint the white strip in between. My plan to solve that problem is to use white vinyl striping.

That is what I did - still looks good going on 10 years now.
