New to the game 1955.1 4400

Hey all. I'm new to this game and Haven't found too much on my type of truck. I bought it last week. It's not in terrible condition with minimal rust theough (front cowls) which I've just ordered on old chevy trucks. I will need some help in the future. Anyone have this truck. Also since its a dump truck ( 1 1/2 ton) does anyone know if the body is same as pick ups. God, I hope so!!! Thanks I'm advance. --Craig

Nice truck and welcome to the forum. The 54's are my favorite but I'm biased since I have a 54 too. I'm pretty sure the cabs are the same but the fenders might be bigger than the ones on the pickups. Someone here will know for sure. Love the 54-55.1 chevy grilles too. Not as common as other types. Rick

Thanks for the welcome. Hopefully someone will read the thread that has the same truck. I only saw one from 2007-08 and I think he's gone from the site. What series is your '54? Thanks again.

MIne is a 54 GMC 1/2 ton short bed. But it's missing a lot of parts. Yours looks like a rugged old truck and road ready.

Here's some pics from last June when I first got it. It's missing stuff but the rust isn't bad. Yours looks pretty complete. Cool that it has a dump body on it.

This link has alot of good info.

http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...4ctsm0101.html

You may also want to pick up a copy of the 47-54 factory assembly manual. It's basically the factory blue prints.

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=LFA4754

It's the best $35 you'll spend on your truck.

Looking through the assembly manual, the 3000,4000, and 6000 trucks all share the same cab. Fenders and hood, are the major difference. Grille on the other hand, I'm not for sure of. My guess is that it's the same.

Re: New to the game 1955.1 4400

Thanks so much for responding. Yes I picked up the manual. I've been going through it. It is a great place to start. I actually bought the manual before the guy agreed on a price because I thought it was a lock. Then he wouldn't sell. I waited 4 months with the manual and called him again. He didn't want it to sit another winter (nor did I) and he agrees on the price. So now I have the manual and truck!!

Re: New to the game 1955.1 4400

Does anyone know where I can get the side emblem that says either Chevrolet or 4400 or both. I only find 3100. Which seems to be the hot item.

Good luck. The time to buy one is when you find one.

This is what yours should look like.

Thanks to both. I really like that 4400 emblem. I put a bid on it with that seller. We'll see!
