Think hes gonna have the learn the "no you can't borrow my truck, if you want to burn rubber get your own dam truck" lesson.
One day of driving is not enough time to be screwing around in cars. Even I waited for at least few days . Good Luck man.

My advice by a little 4cyl car that you hate and wont work on dont let kids ruin your truck, they might not love or respect it like you may,to them it might be just a truck?

When i started driving it was a OLds Black that said 442 on it real big below the doors and on the truck,my mom got countless calls i seen your soon doing a burnout,or driving wreckless, but i always claimed to be in a other area, mom usually beleived me,until she said she got a call, and i denied it and it was actually her that saw me-couldnt get out of that one.

I got my lisense last Friday. Haven't even broken speed limit yet or anything crazy or stupid. I don't plan on getting into trouble or doing much wrong. Don't want to hurt a Chevy, especially my 72.

Oh, I piss off the neighbors all the time. Never burnouts, but most of my neighbors seem to have mental radar guns, and seem to have them set to about 20mph for a speedlimit. No kidding; any time someone's waved their arms / yelled at me / walked in front of my truck and threatened me (no kidding! I shoulda gotten out and beat him up, right there in front of my house, and in front of his wife and kid. walking in front of trucks is a bad idea.) I'm doing 25 at most, if not 20. Almost always seems like they get me coming out of turns, too, and one of these things just doesn't handle well enough on Radial T/As to take a 25mph turn at more than 20 without lots of squealing, I'm sorry.

Best part? Neither of my parents really give a crap...my dad gives me the "Well, you oughta slow down" bit but nothing else...and my mom does 40 in a 25!!! She won't even think of lecturing me, I drive slower than she does almost all of the time...

It's gotta be something about the truck. I tear up the neighborhoods in my dad's Benz and nobody even glances over if I whiz by a frontyard full of kids at 35 in the Benz; idle by at 20 in the truck and I've got a screaming madwoman on my hands.

Oh, DR - your first car sounds like my dad's. I wish I had it for my first instead of a '67-'72 (but the '70 GMC is a nice trade =) - the punk had a '68 Firebird, complete with 400 and 4 speed. No posi and crap tires, so the thing ran low fifteens at 104mph...I'd stick a posi in it, some nice wide tires, maybe some A/C, tweak it to run on premium unleaded instead of leaded, and absolutely rape the ricers. That is, if I had it... =P

If i was togo back as a first vehicle,it shoulda been the 64 Impala my stepdad was gonna buy,but i didnt want it,had 15"Americans on it,a 4spd,when i was 16 my friends woulda pointed laughed and tortured me for driving that, and i never woulda got a attempted date.Remember my stepdad taking me way out to look at this lead on o low mile Plymouth,we went and looked it was a big ugly original wagon, white wall and all,but it was clean think there was like 20 some thousand on the car, stepdad said ill buy it right now on the spot if youll drive it,i refused,it was sweet but woulda got beat, probably a Hemi in it-he really wanted me to want that car.way too much!!!!!
Its all he talked about! But hell i wanted a rough idling mag wheeled car that was popular,at that time it was Camaros, and Chevelles,Mustangs i wanted something different but not be laughed at,i wanted to kickass.Still want to!!!!

My boy just got his liciense and a 70 sb chevy. We have been working hard to make it street ready, from wiring to dash, well everything needed some attention. All that work he appreciates the hard labor and doesn't want to do any damage to the vehicle that would require more work and money. With the cam and heads and dual pumper I can smoke those tires in both 1st and second and I seem to be more of a kid then he is. He breaks it he fixes it and spends his not so easy to get cash, that sure makes him show some respect. The same with his dirt bike, maintenance is the main issue and helps keep it running, he wouldn't think of not letting the bike get warmed up and filter change before an outing. Good luck with your son. Ed ke6bnl, all my other kids are girls.

my first was a 79 camaro with a doggy 305 and th350 with 3:08 rears, slow as he!! on the quarter, but would bury the 120mph spedo with no prob. My boys are 22 months and 3 months, I'm planning on letting them help me build their trucks, or whatever else they feel like putting together out of the yard, this way, maybe they'll get more knowlege of how a vehicle works and respect it because they helped build it, and of course, after it's built, it's their baby, i buy no more parts.
