Just curious as where to buy the silver paint for these wheels, (Argent Silver) I believe it's called. I have a couple sets of these, one of which I'm going to install on my truck. One set has silver on the back side and the other the wheels are painted silver front and back. Do you believe these were painted that way, maybe from different plants? I know I could have some mixed, but would rather buy it in a rattle can. Even close, doesn't need to be exact.

I purchased my paint from Eastwood, they offer the correct color paint, and a additional clear coat. I found my wheels were black on the backside, silver sprayed on the front, with over spray through the holes.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure they were painted different at different factories. Curious, did you paint just the front? I wondering how many cans it would take to do 5 wheels.

Duplicolor HPW101 Silver works great. Get (2) cans of primer, (2) cans of the base silver, and (1) or (2) cans of gloss clear coat. The rear of the wheel should be black. The 'base' of the center cap is supposed to be the same silver as the wheel, though I actually polished the whole center cap when I did mine. I used Duplicolor wheel paint (which should stand up to the chemicals a little better).

The steps I used:

Cleaned the wheels with a pressure washer and some degreaser.
Removed the wheel weights and sanded with 220 grit sandpaper with particular focus on rust spots and pitted areas. I sanded until I could close my eyes and run my hand across it without feeling any transition.
Cleaned the wheel with mineral spirits and sanded again, making sure it was smooth. It's ok if you reach bare metal.
Cleaned the wheels and the tires with mineral spirits and masked the wheel from the tire.
Cleaned the wheel one last time with a tack cloth and mineral spirits.
2 light, and then 1 medium coat of wheel primer, allowing 10 minutes between each coat
15 minutes after the primer, 3 light coats then 1 medium coat of base color with 10 minutes between each coat.
15 minutes after the base, 2 light coats then 1 medium coat of gloss coat with 10 minutes between each coat.
Waited a day or 2 before crying while putting on the beauty rings, which scratch up all your had work.

Great job on the wheels. Yes plants some maybe frosted on the out side edges in side edges on the back. I think it the set up on how they got painted or manger at the plants

Thanks for the information not only on the type of paint, but on the painting of the wheels. Your wheels look great, & yes putting the trim ring really hurts. Speaking of trim rings has anyone actually bought any of the repos. I have 15X6.5 wheels and trying to find nice used set is almost impossible. I'm thinking 2-1/2 should work. Anyone know where to buy a set? Thanks again for the help.

the eBay rings look good but are REALLY flimsy and flex a lot when you go to install them. I still plan to buy a couple more sets though as I have a few sets of wheels I plan on selling

The eBay stainless rings are "VERY" flimsy, you must be very, very careful when putting them on. I ended up putting kinks in two of mine (got the company to replace them for being so cheap). The problem is the tabs that hold the rings in pace at bent out a little to straight. I just squeezed the tabs in a bit to make them fit better, and no problems were had.

Thanks. I'm definitely an amateur / shade tree mechanic, at best. Sometimes it's hard to get intimidated by junk like this, but its often all for naught. It's really about just tearing into things and seeing what works.

I actually painted (1) of the wheels and didn't like the end results, so I waited a week for the paint to cure and then sanded the wheel down and did it again. My mistake the first go round was using a wire wheel on an small angle grinder to removed the rust in places. It caused a bunch of ridges that showed up after painting. By hand sanding, it took a long time and my hand was sore, but gave me much better results. Plus, I could sand the wheels late at night after the kids were in bed without waking them up.

Duel 77-87 Factory air cleaner, duel inlet from rad support . Down sized 9' to new 8' Steel flat bed Was a 77 454 w/308 gear. Taken out 550 lbs. up front with motor clip change.
