White letters or black wall out?

I am going to swap out the tires tomorrow on this truck I just acquired. As you can see in the pic it has some aluminum wheels that I plan to use for now. What is the trend these days, white lettering or black wall out. I know it's s preference thing but what are your opinions on the matter considering these wheels?

Re: White letters or black wall out?

For a long time I liked white letters out (depending on the tire) but for the past few years I have been a blackwall guy. Like you said though, it's just personal preference, so whatever you like is the way to go.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

I'm also in the used-to-dig-white-letters-out and looking really white club. Whether its the current thang or not, my preference these days is black wall out.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

Nice truck. It's got a 70's vibe to it. Vintage style camper shell and wheels. Sorry I can't be much help. Have a 72 Blazer with black walls and a 70 GMC long bed with white letters. Have 71 short bed with white walls at the present time. But when it's time for new tires I'm changing them to black walls for sure. White letters you're always prone for curb rash if your not careful. Just my two cents worth. But it's personal preference in the end.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

I just recently put new tires on my '69 and I also pondered for a while whether I wanted white letters out or blackwalls. Basically flipped a mental coin and went with black out and I am really happy with it.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

When I buy good name brand white letter tires(rarely) I'll mount 'em white out. When I buy off brand "MAYPOP 60/15's"(usually) I hide 'em on the inside. ... I've bought some that the lettering was so cheesy that I painted them black so you couldn't see them on the INSIDE

Re: White letters or black wall out?

I like black out. I really can't see advertising some tire company (Same with license plate frames that advertise a dealer). Also it just looks so "busy" to have all of that lettering showing. JMHO

Re: White letters or black wall out?

What about white letters out with PO1 hub caps? Anybody do that? I'm asking cause I still have to buy tires, and am considering just cleaning up my hub caps and running them.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

I know some of you will hate this, but my 72 Cheyenne came with white stripe and I have kept it that way. But if I was choosing between white letter or black, I'd go black.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

My 2 cents. Brown7373 your truck looks super with the rallys, white walls and the two tone paint. This topic has come up on the boards before and it usually comes out about 50/50 but with whats been posted so far today it looks like blackwalls are more popular. My opinion is Raised White Letter tires are for Muscle Cars, not trucks.

I like the white letter out on yours. With no molding or the white stripe going down the middle, the white letters bring a nice balance to that gorgeous blue.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

On a new truck I like black wall out but on anything made in the 70s I like white letters out because that's how we did it back in the day.

I agree Already Gone. I don't think of a pickup as a muscle machine, but it still boils down to a personal opinion. Do what you like.

White letters out. My 70 jimmy has them out and my brand new truck also has them out from the factory as well.

Re: White letters or black wall out?

It's a tire dude, don't put that much thought into it! As long as all 4 match, I don't think it matters that much.

Mine has white walls on it now from the PO and once I dig up his original wheels and hub caps, I think those will look great with the white walls.

When I was younger, all I wanted was chrome everything and raised white letters. Now that I am older, I want my truck to be as OEM as possible. What was OEM in 1972? That's how I want it.

... Good decision. I think it looks much better with black out ...I had white letter BFG,s on my p/u at one time ,now they're Coopers black out. My K5 was Michelins black out, now BFG's white out.
