Frame Rot What to do?

Well I got the old trailer hitch off today and found this on the drivers side frame rail:

I was hoping to be able to tow my trailer with the suburban. Is this something that a can be repaired by a welding shop?

It's repairable... At the bodyshop I work at, my boss has fixed a few frames like that. Most welding shops should be able to do it as well.

Is that the only bad spot in the frame or are there more?

Check the area around the rear leaf spring mounts, I bet they're thin or holy as well.

Ya can't miss that New York rust, but yeah ya can fix it...Sand it down to bare metal and slap a 1/4 " metal plate on there...

Re: Frame Rot What to do?

As far as I know it is the only bad place. But next time I am under probably Friday it I will look around the leaf spring mounts but I know there are no holes around there.... The funny thing is it is only on the drivers side. I am going to drop the gas tank on friday so I am sure I will see everything after that.
