Question Manual transmission question

A friend was out picking up my old 307 and as we were looking at how the swap was proceeding I asked him if he still wanted the 4 speed manual tranny out of the 1 ton 2 wd I bought. He said he didn't, then asked me why I wasn't just using it in my truck instead of the 4 speed I got a couple years ago from a 1968 4x4 truck. The older tranny obviously has some wear as the output splines are slightly worn - not bad, but definitely some wear.

He thought I could just take off the yoke setup on the newer 2wd tranny and then I can just slap the adapter to the transfer case on it. From looking at it, I can't see why that wouldn't work.

Before I jump into it, does anyone know of any reason that I can't modify the 2wd drive four speed like mentioned above to use in my 4wd truck?
