Question 96 C3500 4L80E trans

I have a 96 C3500 non HD with the 454 and 4L80E trans. I need to replace the trans and would like to install brand new upgraded unit, problem is every place I look all the listings I find only show 97 & up. So can anyone please tell me the differences between a 96 & 97 4L80? Thanks!

I know one of the changes is how the the transmission fittings have moved and internal lubrication is different.

On 97 and up cases, the rear transmission line fitting has a longer snout that feeds into the transmission, be sure to get that part as you would burn it up using a regular length fitting.
