Chevy and GMC to have 4 Cylinder engine 2019 model.

It will make 110 MORE H.P. than my stock 350 (1969).
Also, it will run on 2 cylinders under light load!
The 5.3 and 6.2 will run on one cylinder under some light load conditions!!

Well, here is the article, hope it hasn't already been posted. -BA

Stick a big turbo on your 350 and see what happens
I hope they blow up on anyone who lets them get away with putting it in their full size truck. This is ridiculous.

Odd. I think it's a great idea. If they can get reasonable power from a 4 banger then what's wrong with that? What is wrong with a more effeciently designed engine? The 4.3 V6 is now 300+ HP. I think that is great. All these ext cab & double cab shortbed pickups running around rarely needing the power of a 5.3 or 6.0, except to drive too fast, is what I see as ridiculous.

I say no thanks to the 4 cyl in a full size pickup idea thank you. I don't care how much hp it can make.

I'd be curious to see the power curve and towing ratings. I'm also betting this engine doesn't last nearly as long as a V8.

Re: Chevy and GMC to have 4 Cylinder engine 2019 model.

I watched a video about this engine I think they said that the torque curve starts at 1500 rpm-4000rpm and the motor was designed specifically to be in the silverado. I think if the motor has good reliability and is AFFORDABLE (not just the engine the truck) then I think it will be good. I find it crazy how they can get that much power out of a 2.7l.

Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVr9V72xurA

Re: Chevy and GMC to have 4 Cylinder engine 2019 model.

My dad HATES the 5 cylinder in his 2005 GMC Canyon. He wishes it was at least a V6 and I wish it was a straight six.

The more complicated engines get, the more trouble they are and cost to fix.

Re: Chevy and GMC to have 4 Cylinder engine 2019 model.

Should have lots of room in the engine compartment which could be a good thing. It is funny all the horsepower we get from smaller engines. My 1973 400ci motor has the same horse power as the 4.3 6cyl in my 93 s10 not as much torque though.

If it's simple and reliable then as I'm for it
