getting a little ting noise sometimes from going from park to drive ,vice versa and checked everything and saw the slip yoke has some side to to side play. DO you grease the inside of slip yoke or do I need a new yoke

If it is the slip joint making the ping sound and it has a lot of side to side play, you may have to have the rear tailshaft bearing replaced. Uses a special tool and shouldn't be too much to replace. I don't work on automatic transmissions but someone here may tell you what it entails.

The drive shaft u-joints also may be making the ping sound. They will make a ping or clicking sound like that when shifting from reverse to drive or like yours, from park to drive.

Re: turbo 350 slip yoke ?

It sounds like you need a new tail shaft bushing. They do wear out. You just remove the tailshaft housing (4 bolts) and drive the bushing out with a drift if I remember correctly. I'm surprised it isn't leaking more if you have side to side play.

Yeah, meant to say bushing not a bearing.

Regarding lubing the slip yoke. IIRC there's a special lube that you can use on the slip yoke but not sure which one it is.

One other thing you want to check is see if there are any wear grooves on the slip yoke. A transmission shop once told me they could sleeve one of mine that had a groove but I decided to buy a new one.
