Re: Jeep Door Stops

I'd be willing to bet that they are. Just call up a jeep dealer and speak with their parts department, and ask them for the parts number as well as price. Make sure they're for a Cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee though.

I got both of mine out of a u-pull it place for less than $5. Make sure you get the pin that attaches the door stop to the frame and keep the original nuts. I thought I had taken those but turns out I didn't, no biggy but it required a trip to lowes to get nuts and washers in the correct size and pitch (11mm I think)

I am going to head out to our local Pick-n-pull tomorrow. If they don't have any I figured I would just pick them up online... Although it looks like the are about 50.00 each! WOW! Let's hope pick-n-pull has them!

Re: Jeep Door Stops

According to the Persh weblink the preferred units are from a 1984 to 2001 Jeep Cherokee:

http://www.persh.org/Pickup/DoorChecks.htm

Here’s one place that sells them new for 1984 to 1996, so there are probably others:

if you mean the little plates with the nylon straps, those are not in cherokees, but they are in wranglers.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

Have you considered the repro's of the original door limiters? They really aren't that much $$.

http://www.classicparts.com/1960-66-...ctinfo/18-481/

I don't know if there is an advantage to using the Jeep straps versus these, but before I spent much money on the Jeep ones......

Re: Jeep Door Stops

The jeep ones don't let the door open anywhere close to the cowl which can put a nice dent in your doors

mine sure did, so did a friend's. I modified mine by shortening the arm 3/8" (cut and mig welded), that should be somewhere in the Persh link, also

Re: Jeep Door Stops

Dang! Something else to add to the list! Are they the same checks for the 67? I know 67 can be sometimes closer related to the 60-66s than the 72.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

I put the stock replacements in and they do a great job of keeping the door from hitting. They also keep the door open pretty well. The two curved bars on it put extra clamping forces on it when it is all the way open. I was going to go the jeep route, but since I had these sitting around for a few years, I put them in and was pleasantly surprised, especially for the $8 bucks or so that they cost.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

The point of using the Jeep door checks on our trucks is that they will hold the door open on a hill, the originals door checks just stop it from opening too far. Well, until they wear out and break and the door slams into the cowl. The other thing is, by all accounts, it is a bolt in with no modifications required.

update May 2014 :

Replacing Door Checks

That is the thread where persh's tech article got started... part numbers from 10 years ago listed in the thread.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

These are the Jeep Cherokee Door checks I got at the Pull a part. They are different from what Pershing shows. I haven't installed them on the truck yet but look like they will work. Not for sure if I will use the fronts, rears,or modify them to be the same length as originals.

this is true if your using the front door checks from the jeep's they are shorter then the rear door checks ,if your using the rear door checks from the jeeps without shortening them they come very close like stated below VVVV and by using the rear door checks you only get one open position for the door instead of two positions that the front door checks have..

did you get the thick rubber gaskets that are supposed to go between the check and the door? they help limit the amount of travel in addition to absorbing shock. on one set I got at the yard the gaskets came out with the checks, on another set they stayed stuck inside the door and I didn't notice 'til I got home.

when I did the trip to the yard I was under the impression that I needed rear checks, I now firmly believe that I should have gotten the fronts.

As a clarification, none will hit under normal, controlled opening of the door. but if you, or someone, happens to "throw" the door open, or it otherwise swings open without someone holding on, you can mar your paint. the shorter throw versions will keep this from happening.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

What an awesome, cheap mod! I really like the double detent feature.

I guess I'll have to hit the wrecking yard and pick up a pair of Jeep stops.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

I think I picked up three sets and none of them came out with the rubber pads. How thick is the rubber? Any pictures of the rubber pads?

66 C-10 TPI,
Those were the ones I used as well and not the rubber type referenced in the Persh site. Those do work as shown...

Re: Jeep Door Stops

Got my jeep door stops all cleaned up and ready to install, I picked them up cheap at the junk yard off the back doors of the jeep Cherokee.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

I used the front Cherokee door stops on my '65. They worked great and having a detente in the middle was nice when in tight spots. Downside was, the doors didn't open as far. Not a big deal but made putting larger items inside the truck a little harder.

Re: Jeep Door Stops

Budman--I used the jeep back door ones but i shortened them about 1/4" (just enough to re-drill the pin hole) made the door open not quite as far.
