With your rep, I'm sure you'll be welding lots more rockers on with that thing (plus whatever you're using it for anyway.) You'll have that $ back in no time

Cab is looking great and those spot welds look really cool on there.

Yes you are correct the system I am looking at is about $15-20k with a few $k back from the state it is supposed to be a 5-6 year return on your investment.

Starting the wire gutter molding as well as the passenger side copy of the drivers side. On the copy plate I went ahead and rolled an edge into the piece to match what was their as well as giving it a lot more rigidity before welding the gutter cap in place. As you have seen before I am doing an LFD signature wire gutter cap at a 45* angle. I just like it this way the best for a smooth and simple look but being anything but simple to do right.

Before doing any welding I first treated the bare metal gutter, then seam sealed the factory seam before coating it with a good top coat.

I also added a pic of my gas pedal adapter plate installed for using a cable style in the older linkage style cab. This will bolt into the stock mounting holes that have been capped off from the engine bay side then allow the cable pedal to be bolted in from the inside.

I was just looking at that ugly stock gutter this morning and considered doing something similar but with a kicked up lip at the front edge in the middle to channel water away from the distributor.

It rains too much up here to get away with what you did but it looks fantastic.

I have done a few this way it is kind of my signature on fire walls. As for rain it would not be a problem because the cowl panel has a front lip that the hood over laps so the Dizzy should never get wet. But you are right this truck will never see water. The owner has a 4 car garage with a lift as well so it will have a warm place to sleep.

The spot welder only runs a few seconds at a time and probably isn't much of a draw compared to a mig or tig, or compressor for that matter.

I like the way that turned out with the spot welds. I'd guess you'll get your money back out of that welder soon enough. It will be used for more than rocker panels.

So when are you going to start selling the firewall parts pre-cut for us to start making our own patented LFD firewalls?

If people knew what it took to just make the two panels for doing the top edge and I tried to charge what it was worth, I would be ran off the site! I also have not found two fire walls that are close enough in shape to able to reuse my patterns, but it is well worth the finished look.

Will this work for a firewall not modified??...I'd like to use the cable style,
but don't want to fool with the firewall right now (I know 'Putter' did a write up for converting to cable style, but it involved modifying the firewall abit too)

Yes it will work with out any mod's to the fire except the hole needed for the cable to mount and exit the firewall. I will be making a few sets of adapters to see what costs would be. I will let you all know when I am done.

Well I spent most of the day running around re-stocking supplies and picked up the hardware for the 67-70 gas pedal conversion and built the one for this truck as well as a few others. Costs will be $35. shipped in the USA and that gets you the adapter plate, all hardware and instructions. You will need to provide the 71-72 pedal and what ever kind of cable you want to run depending on your motor. Also the way this is set up the holes in the fire wall can be filled for a smooth look but still keep the weld nuts on the inside of the firewall for mounting. See last pic and notice the holes are filled.

This truck will use the stock 72 cable, my LowBuck truck used the 96 Impala LT1 cable or you could use Lokar or many others for a clean look. I also like the cable over the rod style because I had a truck years ago with bad mounts and it would self throttle from time to time.

Kevin, the firewall looks amazing! especially when you look at the finished product with paint. I know you have crazy skills, but approxemately how long did it take you to fab the parts and weld it in? Hours? days? a week? Keep it up!

If the owner is reading this it was weeks upon weeks What parts are you talking about? Just the top rail? The passenger side to match the drivers side? Or all the little coupons to weld up all those holes?

Well just in making the templets, cutting the pieces out and tack welding them was about 6 hours. They have not been finish welded yet as I had a good spurt of ADD the last few days and my mind has been in a hundred other directions. I should be back on the firewall Friday.

Very nice build again, as always. I really do like that firewall and I might have to try one out on my cab for my truck. That definitely helps set off the engine compartment for sure. I also love the spot welder. I would think that would knock down installation time to half or less too wouldn't it? Like asked before, would a harbor freight spot welder work for atleast the lower pinch weld? Very nice work, keep it up!
